TALLAHASSEE — President Donald Trump’s shoutout to the far-right hate group Proud Boys is energizing black voters to turn out against him in the must-win state of Florida.

“His call to the white supremacist group Proud Boys to ‘stand by,’ and telling his followers to go to the polls and watch them, that is straight up voter suppression,” said incoming state Minority Leader Bobby DuBose, a Black Broward County Democrat.

DuBose made his comments during a conference call to roll out Democrat Joe Biden’s “Black men, VOTE!” campaign, a push to secure what has been an important but inconsistent Florida voting bloc.

The Biden call was scheduled before Trump stood on the debate stage in Cleveland and ordered the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by,” creating a sense of urgency and outrage that could work in Biden’s favor.

Former national security adviser H.R. McMaster said Thursday that President Donald Trump is “aiding and abetting” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s efforts to sow doubt about the American electoral system.

The stern warning from McMaster, who Trump handpicked to lead the White House National Security Council in 2017, came in an interview on MSNBC, after he was asked whether he agreed that the president posed the greatest threat to U.S. election integrity.

“I agree that he is aiding and abetting Putin’s efforts by not being direct about this, right? By not just calling out Putin for what he’s doing,” McMaster said.


“You know, Putin gets away with, I mean, literally murder or attempted murder … because people don’t call him out on it,” he added. “And so they are able to continue with this kind of fire hose of falsehood, to sow these conspiracy theories. And we just can’t be our own worst enemies.”

If you have not had the time to watch that video above, you owe it to yourself to see it.

The first time I watched it (before I posted it in GD), I did not get very emotional, besides seeing instantly it was a spectacular ad for Biden.

This time, it almost brings me to tears. I am 62. Like others near my age (and older), I have weathered all the crises in this nation's history. Not even Watergate affected me so deeply (as a teen). I got very angry at Nixon, but never felt the sheer existence of the country was at stake.

This time is different. I am so god damned tired of having to cope with this COVID-19 virus. Of having to listen to that asshole rant and rave as our President. Of having to worry EVERY FREAKING DAY of what he and Barr might do. About the election. Of all the corruption. Of his very much authoritarian instincts.

I WANT ALL THIS TO BE OVER, shortly after November 3rd. Yes, I will be happy to wait a while to get it certified.

I am just so so tired of having to cope with this monster, and the monsters like him that move amongst us.
