Mnuchin and DeVos Sued for Unlawful Seizure of Student Loan Borrowers' Tax Refunds During Pandemic

"Secretaries DeVos and Mnuchin have inflicted needless financial pain on student borrowers and their families."

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, and the federal departments they run were hit with a class-action lawsuit Friday for illegal seizures of thousands of student borrowers' tax refunds during the coronavirus pandemic, which has left over 40 million Americans jobless and familes across the country struggling to stay in their homes and keep food on the table.

"The administration has shown an utter disregard for the law and the needs of student loan borrowers during this difficult time, and their botched rollout of CARES Act protections is causing real suffering for families across the nation."
—Alice Yao, Student Defense

The suit (pdf)—filed by Student Defense and Democracy Forward in the U.S. District Court for D.C.—accuses the Education and Treasury departments of violating the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) Act from late March, which halted all involuntary collection of federal student loans, including tax refund offsets, until the end of September.

"Secretaries DeVos and Mnuchin have inflicted needless financial pain on student borrowers and their families by failing to stop the illegal seizures of their tax refunds," Democracy Forward senior counsel Jeffrey Dubner said in a statement.

They have done analysis that financial anxiety makes people vote intuitively rather than rationally. Look at the former union members who voted for Trump. No doubt Devos and Mnuchin want to impose financial anxiety on people just starting their lives so they vote with 'strongmen' and against minorities and not for their family's financial self interests. Counter intuitive. But the GOP has been fomenting financial anxiety in people for 40 years. I think the jig is up. I hope.

Right wing race war actors see blood in the water: a combination of

Trump continually calling them good people, trying to open up the economy before the doctors say they should and coronavirus killing african americans in disproportionate numbers. They are getting a message and they are acting on it. I don't believe the WH is not aware.

The axis of ego is probably on the phone with each other talking about how tanking the WHO and

ignoring COVID-19 for as long as they did (do) are going to cull the herd and reduce the human footprint, earning themselves the Nobel Peace Prize for improving the environment.

It is becoming clearer why Susan Rice is such a target on the right. She can refute 'Obamagate'

like nobody else as she was in the Obama White House and has a laser like memory for details.

Susan Rice responds to 'dishonest accusations' after email about Obama meeting on Flynn declassified

WASHINGTON – Allies of President Donald Trump are seizing upon newly declassified portions of an email written by former national security adviser Susan Rice as evidence that an investigation into her incoming successor, Michael Flynn, was politically motivated, while Rice says the same email proves the previous administration's concerns were legitimate.

Rice sent herself an email on the day of Trump's inauguration that recounts a Jan. 5, 2017, Oval Office meeting she attended along with President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates. She described the meeting as a "follow-on conversation" after a briefing by intelligence community leaders on Russian interference in the 2016 election.

"President Obama began the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities 'by the book,'" Rice wrote. "The President stressed that he is not asking about, intimating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book."

Rice said Obama wanted to be sure there was no reason they couldn't "share any information fully as it related to Russia" with the new administration.

White House economic adviser Peter Navarro claimed on Meet the Press that lockdowns to curb the spread of the coronavirus will “indirectly” kill more people than the virus itself.

And who is responsible for building businesspeople into cult members who get all their self worth from their increased productivity and bonuses than being a good person or a truly religious one (real walk the walk christianity for example) or truly interconnected with their communities through paying good taxes that go to good schools or sharing in a great universal healthcare system with the whole country or mentoring youth, or being part of a country that has lead and still leads the world in every crisis, etc? Or all of the above or a mixture thereof? Cause businesspeople is who Trump cares about. Who is responsible of making all the people really so brittle? The poor are financially vulnerable, the republican rich are morally poor and community poor. So disconnected? The GOP. But the GOP business cult need an intervention if only to be shown a better way and a way out: when you pull up the ladder behind you you have nowhere to go, but to jump, in a business crisis.

Then again in Britain they are worried about suicides of front line workers due to COVID-19. So we can up the numbers of deaths in the case business opens too soon and COVID - 19 numbers go way back up and traumatize healthcare workers into ptsd.

If only there had been proper bending of the curve in february and early march. Many deaths could have been avoided due to economic loss of workers and business owners and COVID - 19.

Well Kayleigh MacEnany is quoting MSM sources from her binder when she gives

press conferences. So i guess the Trump WH likes the main stream media. Cause they seem to want the press gallery to believe. Someone should ask her about that.

May 15, 2020

Kayleigh McEnany has a new press tactics in WH Press Conferences 1) really important

question thanks for asking that 2) quote some MSM source (not fox) on something 3) read it from a binder 4) that blames or then can be blamed on Obama

If they can vote by mail. Trust me, the GOP has already run the numbers

on whether or not they can suppress the waking senior vote for Biden by not allowing voting by mail.

The private health care companies are probably worried medicare

for all might get some life after americans realize how vulnerable the current employer based system makes them. That would explain the popularity of the ACA now. Didn't Barr warn Trump not to fight the ACA right now? But Trump wants to get rid of it because it was Obama's. Maybe the GOP gave Trump some bull**** reason why the ACA has to be undone when they fully had no intension of replacing it and now their hands are tied they can't give Trump the truth at this late time. But undoing the ACA, when 70% of americans want public health care, is risky. Especially if they fully intended not to replace it with anything.

They are going after Obama with a new conspiracy theory to get at a strength of Biden's. The

China one does not work. Calling Biden doddering does not work coming from Trump.so now this. I'd love to have Obama in the spotlight as a foil to Trump: the Obama Administration had principals and honesty and leadership, plus Obama's people were qualified. They cared about helping people not in the 1% too. Trump and his team just surf one conspiracy narrative after another hoping to hang ten.
