Russia—which largely opposes genetically modified food (GMOs) and is stamping out GMOs in its entire food production—wants to be world’s largest exporter of non-GMO food, according to RT

In a speech given to Russian Parliament last week, President Vladimir Putin announced his intention to be the world’s biggest supplier of “ecologically clean and high-quality food” and criticized GMO food production in western countries even though demand for organic food has soared exponentially in recent years.

“We are not only able to feed ourselves taking into account our lands, water resources—Russia is able to become the largest world supplier of healthy, ecologically clean and high-quality food which the Western producers have long lost, especially given the fact that demand for such products in the world market is steadily growing,” he said.

Putin also said that in the last decade, Russia has gone from importing half of its food to becoming a net exporter. Putin claims that Russia now makes more money from selling food than from selling weapons and fuel.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) removed a report from its website where they concluded that glyphosate was “not likely to be carcinogenic to humans.” The report has been pulled offline on May 2, 2016 along with 13 other documents.

Reuter reports that the regulatory agency took down the report as well as the other documents because they were not final. In a clarificatory email, EPA explained that the 86-pages report has been published “inadvertently” and that their review of the chemical has not been finished yet. However, the report was dated Oct. 1, 2015, was labeled as “final Cancer Assessment Document”, with the word “FINAL” being clearly printed on every single page of the document. In their report, the EPA allegedly claimed that glyphosate, the ingredient found in Monsanto’s common herbicide Roundup, was “not likely to be carcinogenic to humans.”

On the other hand, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) on its latest report, classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans (Group 2A),” raising several controversies. During his recent interview on Here & Now, Monsanto CEO Hugh Grant insisted on claiming that Roundup is not carcinogen for humans. “It’s 40 years old,” he said, explaining how “virtually every year of its life it’s been under a review somewhere in the world by regulatory authorities.” Monsanto keeps claiming that the EPA’s document should be issued as an “official classification” while the regulator responded that their cancer review is not complete and that it will be peer reviewed by the end of 2016.

Manufacturer Johnson & Johnson has lost their second case in talcum powder-related litigation in a sign of what is to come for the company. Now that the ball has begun rolling in the litigation against Johnson & Johnson for their cancer-causing use of talcum powder, we can expect to see many more payouts from the corporate giant as it faces nearly 1,200 other similar cases.

The journey began earlier this year when Johnson & Johnson lost their first case against an Alabama woman who claimed that her daily use of talc-containing J&J product “Shower to Shower” had caused her ovarian cancer. The family of victim Jacqueline Fox was awarded a hefty $72 million in the verdict against J&J. Unfortunately, Fox’s cancer killer her before justice could be served.

Though Johnson & Johnson declared that they intended to appeal the ruling, the strong case opened the door to the thousands of others.
