NYT - Under Trumpcare - you will need to be MORE disabled to qualify & your family might be required

to pay a portion of nursing home care.

Medicaid Cuts May Force Retirees Out of Nursing Homes

Under federal law, state Medicaid programs are required to cover nursing home care. But state officials decide how much to pay facilities, and states under budgetary pressure could decrease the amount they are willing to pay or restrict eligibility for coverage.

“The states are going to make it harder to qualify medically for needing nursing home care,” predicted Toby S. Edelman, a senior policy attorney at the Center for Medicare Advocacy. “They’d have to be more disabled before they qualify for Medicaid assistance.”

States might allow nursing homes to require residents’ families to pay for a portion of their care, she added. Officials could also limit the types of services and days of nursing home care they pay for, as Medicare already does.

Arkansas Tries To Stop An Epidemic Of Herbicide Damage - Monsanto's Dicamba

Arkansas's pesticide regulators have stepped into the middle of an epic battle between weeds and chemicals, which has now morphed into a battle between farmers. Hundreds of farmers say their crops have been damaged by a weedkiller that was sprayed on neighboring fields. Today, the Arkansas Plant Board voted to impose an unprecedented ban on that chemical.

"It's fracturing the agricultural community. You either have to choose to be on the side of using the product, or on the side of being damaged by the product," says David Hundley, who manages grain production for Ozark Mountain Poultry in Bay, Arkansas.

The tension — which even led to a farmer's murder — is over a weedkiller called dicamba. The chemical only became a practical option for farmers a few years ago, when Monsanto created soybean and cotton plants that were genetically modified to survive it. Farmers who planted these new seeds could use dicamba to kill weeds without harming their crops.

By 2018, Whole Foods will not stock packages that fail to disclose GMO content

Do consumers care whether food contains genetically-modified organisms? General Mills seems to think so. Though there’s little scientific evidence genetically-modified crops are dangerous, the food giant plans to start selling GMO-free Cheerios, a development experts say could push others companies to follow suit.

Though the FDA does not mandate that labels account for genetically-modified ingredients, some companies plan to do so as a selling point. Whole Foods Markets WFM, +0.40% says that by 2018 it will not stock packages that fail to disclose GMO content. Kellogg’s K, -0.35% says it is working to remove all GMO-based ingredients from its Kashi cereals, and Chipotle CMG, +0.71% plans to offer a GMO-free menu, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Conservative David Frum:If Trump fires Mueller he should write Im super guilty in the sky over WH

Appearing in a panel discussion with MSNBC host Laurence O’Donnell, conservative David Frum said President Donad Trump’s threat to fire special counsel Robert Mueller would be a tacit admission that he is guilty.

With Trump ally Newt Gingrich calling for the firing of Mueller, Frum said Gingrich might enjoy that type of “apocalyptic” governance but it would be devastating to the White House.

“The independent counsel law was allowed to lapse last century because there were doubts of constitutionality,” Frum explained. “The special counsel is now under the president because people argued that the president could be trusted to investigate himself. If that turns out not to be true, then you are into political remedies of the most dire kind.”

“Maybe Newt Gingrich would welcome that because it’s kind of an apocalyptic scenario and he enjoys those,” Frum continued. “I don’t want to sound like I have the limited imagination you condemn, but if Trump fires Robert Mueller he might as well hire a sky writer to trace in smoke over the White House, ‘I am super guilty.'”

Al Franken can't imagine what Mueller would do to get fired from special prosecutor job

Shortly after news broke that President Donald Trump is reportedly considering firing special prosecutor Robert Mueller, MSNBC host Chris Matthews welcomed Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) onto his show to discuss the liberal senator’s reaction to the possibility.

“He’s fired one, Comey, who was leading the investigation,” Franken said, referencing former FBI Director James Comey, who Trump fired in the midst of the Russia collusion investigation.

“Robert Mueller is widely-respected. I can’t imagine what he would do to legitimately open himself to being fired, frankly,” Franken said with a laugh.

“Doing his job, maybe,” Matthews retorted.

“Trump and the people around him are not acting like people who have nothing to hide,” Franken concluded.

J.P. Morgan Chase pulls all ads from NBC over Megyn Kellys interview with Alex Jones: report

According to the Wall Street Journal, JP Morgan Chase has pulled TV and online ads from NBC until after the network airs host Megyn Kelly’s controversial interview with InfoWars host Alex Jones on June 18.

An unnamed source close to the issue told the Journal “the company doesn’t want any of its ads to appear adjacent to any promotions for the interview.”

Earlier in the day, J.P. Morgan’s chief marketing manager Kristin Lemkau tweeted that she was “repulsed” that Kelly and NBC “would give a second of airtime to someone who says Sandy Hook and Aurora are hoaxes,” citing Jones’ infamous statements claiming that the aforementioned massacres were anti-Second Amendment “false flag” operations.

Despite publicized outrage from the families of children shot at Sandy Hook, J.P. Morgan Chase is the first advertiser to pull ads from NBC since the interview was announced.

Reality Winner finding a sense of community in prison - fellow inmates stand by her

During Rare Look Inside Her Home, Parents Say Fellow Inmates Stand By Reality Winner

Since being detained, Winner-Davis says her daughter has found a sense of community in prison. They’ve rallied around her, she says of Winner’s fellow inmates, and have vowed to protect her amid the complicated circumstances she finds herself in. Winner told her mother that when a reporter showed up at the prison, the inmates shielded her from photographs. When she had used up the limited number of phone calls she could make from jail, her cellmate was quick to surrender hers. “She said they will take care of her,” Winner’s mother said.

China poised to take over as global leader in alternative energy - massive floating solar farm

Now that the United States has officially announced its intentions to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement, it appears that China of all nations is poised to take over as the global leader in alternative energy investments and climate change combating.

On this front, China has already begun to make significant investments in alternative energies and started on the long, arduous journey of cleaning its long-polluted air and water. One of the most impressive efforts on this front is a massive solar farm that is located in the ocean off the coast of China.

The Sungrow Power Supply company constructed the 40-megawatt solar power plant on the water which formerly was land – a failed coal-mining town that is now underwater thanks to the environmental factors the solar farm is seeking to reverse.

The Chinese government announced the recently complete solar farm which floats off the coast in China’s eastern Anhui province. The solar farm is now producing energy, a nod toward China’s commitment to increase its use of non-fossil fuels by 20% in order to become a green superpower.
