Florida county Republican Party votes to ban the COVID-19 vaccine

Yes, you read that right.

By CBS News Miami Team

MIAMI - The "Ban the jab" resolution passed with a majority vote in the Lee County Republican Party and will now head to Governor Ron DeSantis' desk.

This comes after a member of the Lee County Republican Party wrote a resolution for the executive committee to consider. Joe Sansone argued the risks of the COVID vaccine are not worth it.

Sansone so far as to label the vaccine a bioweapon.

"The Lee County Republican Party is going to be on the vanguard of this campaign to stop the genocide because we have foreign non governmental entities that are unleashing biological weapons on the American people," he said.

The story goes on to say that the Republican Party has no power and DeSantis can ignore this. Shall we bet which way DumbSantis goes?

Pence says he is nearing a decision on 2024 presidential bid

Source: NBC News/By Jonathan Allen and Ali Vitali

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Mike Pence said Friday that he will make a decision “by the spring” about whether to seek the presidency and suggested that he would pledge to support the eventual GOP nominee if that’s a condition of participating in primary debates.

“If I’m a candidate, I’m sure I’ll meet whatever the requirement is for debates,” Pence told NBC News in an exclusive interview.

As for his timing, Pence said he has a little while before he has to make a decision. “We’re listening, we’re reflecting, we’re talking to firms,” Pence said, adding that “by the spring, our family expects to have a very clear sense of our calling.”

His timing could be complicated by special counsel Jack Smith's investigation into former President Donald Trump. Smith is asking a federal judge to compel Pence to testify before a grand jury about Trump's Jan. 6, 2021, effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

I'm predicting he won't run because he knows he'd have to criticize his Lord and Master. But he's surprised us before -- most recently by supporting aid to the Ukraine.

Media organizations demand Jan. 6 videos McCarthy shared with Fox News' Tucker Carlson

Source: CBS News/Scott MacFarlane

A group of media organizations, including CBS News, is demanding access to a tranche of surveillance and police videos from the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol that U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy provided to Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

In a letter to congressional leadership Friday, the media companies argue the footage McCarthy allowed Carlson and Fox News to access should be made available to other media groups.

The letter was sent on behalf of CBS News, CNN, Politico, ProPublica ABC, Axios, Advance, Scripps, the Los Angeles Times, and Gannett.

"Without full public access to the complete historical record, there is concern that an ideologically-based narrative of an already polarizing event will take hold in the public consciousness, with destabilizing risks to the legitimacy of Congress, the Capitol Police, and the various federal investigations and prosecutions of January 6 crimes," wrote attorney Charles Tobin.

I still believe there should be a court action, but at least they've let Kevvy know. Hopefully, he won't delay in giving them access, though I suspect he will.

Pence urges Ukraine support as GOP hopefuls split on US aid

Source: AP/By PAUL J. WEBER and JILL COLVIN

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Former Vice President Mike Pence said Friday the U.S. should step up support for Ukraine, marking the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion with calls for more and faster military aid that put him out of step with some of his likely 2024 presidential rivals.

“Make no mistake: This is not America’s war. But if we falter in our commitment to providing the support to the people of Ukraine to defend their freedom, our sons and daughters may soon be called upon to defend ours,” Pence told an audience at the The University of Texas at Austin. “If we surrender to the siren song of those in this country who argue that America has no interest in freedom’s cause, history teaches we may soon send our own into harm’s way to defend our freedom and the freedom of nations in our alliance.”

Pence, who is is widely expected to launch a bid for the White House in the coming months, also threw a dig at some in the GOP who have sided with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the war that has upended the lives of millions.

“While some in my party have taken a somewhat different view, let me be clear: There can be no room in the leadership of the Republican Party for apologists for Putin. There can only be room for champions of freedom,” Pence said.

Wow. Slimy Pence turns on his GOP supporters. What will Fox say?

DeSantis leads Trump in California matchup

Source: Politico/Jeremy B. White

California’s large Republican electorate prefers Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to former President Donald Trump, according to a new poll that captures shifting conservative preferences ahead of a contested presidential primary.

The Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll released Friday suggests many conservatives are ready to move on from the former president and affirms that DeSantis would be the Republican most likely to draw voters from Trump. The tally also contains grim news for Vice President Kamala Harris as voters in the Democrat’s home state remain tepid on her presidential prospects.

Republicans in California would choose DeSantis over Trump in a head-to-head presidential matchup by a resounding 17 points, according to the poll. That advantage shrinks in a Republican field featuring former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and other Republican contenders, but DeSantis still would enjoy a clear advantage over Trump in that scenario. He also has a higher favorability rating among Republicans than the former president.

California’s 5.2 million registered Republican voters could play an outsize role in the Republican presidential primary when they select a presidential candidate next March. The primary offers a prime moment of influence for voters who are often sidelined in the politics of the heavily Democratic state.

McCarthy defends release of January 6 footage to Tucker Carlson: 'I promised'

Source: CNN/ By Melanie Zanona

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy defended his controversial move to grant Fox News host Tucker Carlson access to security footage from the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, telling the New York Times he “promised.”

“I was asked in the press about these tapes, and I said they do belong to the American public. I think sunshine lets everybody make their own judgment,” he told the Times.

(snip)

McCarthy could have tasked his own committees with sorting through the footage and presenting it, but a source close to McCarthy said he has long been wary of having the House GOP looking like it is investigating or relitigating the January 6 attack.

Instead, McCarthy opted to give the footage to a friendly conservative media network. Specifically, he opted to give the exclusive to Carlson, who has been one of the most vocal voices in conservative media calling for the footage to be released. Carlson has been a huge McCarthy critic – so this move could help win the speaker some favor with Carlson’s camp as McCarthy tries to hold together both the conservative and moderate wings of his Republican conference.

This says what we all knew - that McCarthy was appeasing his minions by handing it to Fox. Interestingly, the story says Carlson was not the first choice but his GOP committees were. But he decided to go with Carlson -- partly because Carlson has been a big McCarthy critic. Kevvy's kissing his ass, basically. The part I snipped out also said Matt Gaetz was one of those demanding the footage as part of the deal to get votes for his speakership.

Will someone go to court to stop Tucker Carlson's J6 footage marathon?

I'm surprised there hasn't been a court order yet to stop what McCarthy has handed over to Tuckweed Carlson. Is this going to go unfettered? Certainly, McCarthy had no right to do this. Is this not corruption at the highest level?

I really hope some lawyer out there (maybe one reading here) will soon make a court motion or lawsuit to stop this. The danger of what McCarthy has done is beyond belief.

TV Guide Magazine Launches New Print Monthly, TV Insider, Focused on Streaming

By Michael Schneider/AP

There aren’t many new print publications being launched in this tough media climate, but the company behind TV Guide Magazine is trying just that. The team behind TV Guide Magazine (owned since 2015 by Michigan-based NTVB Media) have launched a new magazine focused on the TV streaming platforms, hitting newsstands this week.

The new monthly magazine, TV Insider, features content from the TV Guide Magazine staff — but jettisons the 70-year-old publication’s listings, instead focusing on more coverage of TV programming. The first issue, which has a March 2023 date, features Kiefer Sutherland (star of Paramount+’s new series “Rabbit Hole,” which premieres March 26) on the cover. Peacock’s breakout hit “Poker Face” star Natasha Lyonne will follow up as the April issue’s cover star.

TV Guide Magazine has had less editorial real estate in recent years as a tough advertising market has led to fewer pages — the lion’s share of which are devoted to daily channel grids. The magazine also reduced its trim size to 7”x10” about a decade ago and has more recently pulled back its frequency to 24 issues a year (double issues for most of the year, with a handful of triple issues in the summer) — also limiting space for editorial show coverage. TV Insider aims to rectify that, said group editorial director Michael Fell.

“The origin of this new monthly came out of our last round of reader surveys,” Fell said. “The percentage of TVGM readers that were watching streaming and wanted to know more about streaming had grown phenomenally. We needed to provide more space in this area. The problem was the grids, as far as physical space. For the TVGM readers who were still watching a lot of broadcast, the grids were still a valuable resource for them. But that was limiting how much we could expand for streaming.”
