Can Jessie Watters be jailed for jury tampering?

I haven't seen any real news mentions of that but it seems to me to be called for.

Dickey Betts, Allman Brothers Band Singer-Guitarist, Dead at 80 (Rolling Stone)

Dickey Betts, the singer, songwriter and guitarist of the Allman Brothers Band whose piercing solos, beloved songs and hell-raising spirit defined the band and Southern rock in general, died Thursday morning at the age of 80. The cause was cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Betts' manager David Spero confirmed to Rolling Stone.

"It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Betts family announce the peaceful passing of Forrest Richard 'Dickey' Betts (December 12, 1943 - April 18, 2024) at the age of 80 years old," Betts' family announced in a statement to Rolling Stone. "The legendary performer, songwriter, bandleader and family patriarch was at his home in Osprey, Florida, surrounded by his family. Dickey was larger than life, and his loss will be felt worldwide. At this difficult time, the family asks for prayers and respect for their privacy in the coming days. More information will be forthcoming at the appropriate time."

Although he was often overshadowed by Gregg and Duane, the brothers who gave the Allmans their name, Betts was as equally vital to the band. His sweetly sinuous guitar style introduced elements of Western swing and jazz into the band's music, especially when he was duetting with Duane. As a singer and writer, Betts was responsible for the band's biggest hit, 1973's "Ramblin' Man," as well as some of their most recognizable songs: the moody instrumental "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed," the jubilant "Jessica" and their late-period comeback hit "Crazy Love."

From his trademark mustache to his bad-ass demeanor, Betts was so iconic that he inspired the character of Russell (played by Billy Crudup) in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous. "Goddamn, that guy looks like me!" Betts told Rolling Stone of his first reaction to the movie. "I didn't do the jumping off the roof or the 'golden god,' but I knew Cameron."

No lie: Fox opinion piece calls MTG "an idiot" and says "She is trying to wreck the GOP"

No, this isn't April Fool's. Because of DU rules (and righteously so), I can't link to the piece, but it's really there. I have never seen anyone on Fox take down any Republican like this piece by Liz Peek (who? just another no name conservative) does with MarjorieTaylor Greene. It uses phrases (and seriously) saying she's a drama queen and she uses "bombastic self-serving showmanship and drama." Which we all know is very true. Of course, given that it's Fox, the piece has sharp digs at Democrats, too. But still, for Fox to go after Greene like this is quite a surprise. And a nice one at that. Maybe a few people down in Georgia are listening when it comes to her next election.

How every senator voted on the rejection of Mayorkas impeachment charges (CNN)

By Matt Stiles, CNN
1 minute read

The US Senate on Wednesday voted to end the impeachment case against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, bypassing with procedural votes the first attempt by Congress to oust a Cabinet secretary in more than a century and a half.

The pair of votes, which split along partisan lines, swiftly killed a Senate trial that had only just begun, with Democrats and three independents voting to stop the process. The Republican-controlled House impeached Mayorkas in February.

The senators voted 51-48 against considering the first article of impeachment, with one Republican, Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, voting present. The vote to kill the second article split 51-49, with Murkowski siding with her party. Three independent senators — Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Angus King of Maine and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona — sided with the Democrats on both votes.

Sort or filter the table below to see how individual senators voted on each article.

'Banned in the USA'

By Oliver Darcy/CNN

America's right-wing forces would have you believe that they are the courageous entities standing up for free speech.

But, as they try to claim that mantle, many of those same forces in media and politics are behind a disturbing wave of book bans sweeping the nation.

PEN America, a non-profit organization committed to protecting free expression, published an alarming report Tuesday indicating that the "book ban crisis" is only getting worse. The bans are "speeding up," the organization warned in its report, a troublesome trend that is impacting public school systems from coast-to-coast.

"There were over 4,000 instances of book bans in the first half of this school year—more than all of last school year as a whole. This is a marked increase in comparison to the last spring semester, in which PEN America recorded 1,841 book bans," the group said in the report, aptly titled "Banned in the USA."
