A short bit of history about the destruction of a political party.

I remember working for George McGovern in 72. It was said the Democratic Party was destroyed by that loss.
They said that the Democratic Party was totally destroyed by the 72 loss. (Yes, it was a terrific and horrible loss)
So, who won the election in 1976? Was it Nixon? ....or Someone Else........?

........A Democrat named Jimmy Carter....that is who. The party was NOT destroyed.
.........In fact in 76 it elected a President of the United States of America.. Yes, it was a close race,
but, we won.

It is my opinion that the Republican Party will rebound from any loss even if it is huge.

The Most Addictive Object for Me & Maybe You Too... "THE COMPUTER & THE INTERNET."

I GOT HOOKED ON TO COMPUTERS EARLY IN THE 1980s.. I went to the library at first to use the computer & internet. Eventually, I bought one and I using it right now. I use it every day for hours at a time. It took some time to get addicted to this.THING......but I am now addicted to this........"THING."
..........Of course, I have always liked searching at libraries for interesting stuff. I would often go to the downtown Chicago Public Library to get old historical stuff. (no video tapes then, just small records, tapes & newspapers.)
I liked looking at old newspapers that the library had, and eventually taught high school in the Chicago Public Schools. After a while, I started to teach research and how to do it, and often I met students at the local library to teach them in person. (Yes, how to do research and use the internet for research) (and the Reader's Guide & Other Resources)
........Why addictive? When I start, I like to go to certain locations on the internet, to look up the news and certain topics that are not news,: topics like history, Democratic Underground, inflation, war, current events, puzzles and so on.

Anything that is in the library is also on the internet .YES...ANYTHING and some things that are NOT at libraries, are
on the internet )

.............................HARD TO STOP??? ..... ...TOTAL YES!!!....................................... ...............I HAVE STUDIED ADDICTIONS AND TAUGHT THEM AT SOME GROUP MEETINGS, ................
. I want you to know this particular addiction is not new for me. . .I have been addicted to this "THING" for over 30 years.

Got any ideas? I would welcome any ideas at all...But, shutting the "THING DOWN" would be very difficult for me.. And one
of the neat things is after paying for the computer, and all the stuff connected to it, using this THING is very cheap indeed.

(The one thing it certainly wastes is one four letter word...NO NOT MONEY...BUT ....TIME.
Yes, it costs a lot to buy THE THING in the beginning.. .(but after it is bought it is cheap)
.......NO, it doesn't waste time all the time, ..just ... ...SOME OF THE TIME..!!!!!..........

.............I hope the bosses don't delete this, because it is nasty and irrelevant. I am sorry if this post disturbed people,
, but I got in a mood, and I needed to say this.) Why? Why Not???

..........................You think by now, after a number of years .I WOULD HAVE THE ANSWER ????
................... .MAYBE YOU DO......I DON'T.......

.....................NADA, NO,

.............(1 more idea).. .........Thank You for Reading This............Stuart G ....

Sugar and sugar foods are ...."ADDICTIVE." AND, they kill lots of people.

I think sugar is more addictive than booze. (in my opinion)........& I have had that addiction for over
70 years. We need to discuss this again.

Trump says something really stupid this time.....He said, "the Civil War Could Have Been Negotiated"

Front Page of CNN...at this link

https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/06/politics/trump-civil-war-negotiated/index.html

Negotiations were tried. But the issue was...."Slavery"....and in the South that was totally non-negotiable....

Stupid is still ...."STUPID" .............

Trump thinks he knows .........."It all"

IN REALITY DONALD TRUMP KNOWS .........NOTHING AT ALL!!!

(one thing he should have learned by now..."To keep his big mouth shut."...)

About doing research today, as compared with 50 and 60 years ago. Everything has changed completely!!

I did research in the 60s and 70s and taught research in high schools in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s....WHAT HAS CHANGED?

EVERYTHING.....WHAT IS MEANT BY THAT?....HERE IS THE TOTAL ANSWER......YOU USED TO HAVE TO GO A LIBRARY TO GET THE MOST HELP....NOW.....IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO GO WITH YOUR COMPUTER, AND KNOW HOW TO USE THE THING. (YES, "THE THING" IS THE COMPUTER). you don't have to go anywhere at all. It is all on. "THE COMPUTER AND THE INTERNET." ....YES, IT IS.

What is the story?....Here it is: At the Chicago Public Library where I used to go, (in the 60s, there were hundreds or perhaps thousands of video reals, and magazines to take out. That library had old newspapers and historical magazines with all kinds of information, both historical and current day information. (on video reals) & I would go downtown to use the library and look (in Chicago Main Downtown Library). old newspapers from the 20s 30s & 40s and earlier to see what was history and current events during those times.

At the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana, (in the late 60s) where I went to college, the University Library had original newspapers in the library basement from the 1860s. If you could find those newspapers, you could look at them. .Real 1860 newspapers, the paper kinds, and I remember doing that, ... Original Newspapers, Real Originals

Now, you don't have to go anywhere but sit at the computer and look on the internet for information, any kind of information.
Of course, you don't get to see the original newspaper, but that is a small price to pay for sitting at the computer and not getting up to go anywhere at all.

YES, NOT GO ANYWHERE AT ALL... You can sit at the computer all day &..NOT GO TO A LIBRARY!!! .

Yes, you have to know the interactions and basics of the internet and typing, but now they teach that in high school like I did. I would meet the students at the library and show them how to use the Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature and walk the students around the library (a local library).. looking for important information...

I remember the evolution of the internet. It was slow and evolving over a long time.... I saw it all. Now on the internet you can see anything about SPORTS, HISTORY, WEALTH, INCOME, EXCITIMENT, ENTERTAINMENT, MOVIES, TV, OR .ANYTHING AT ALL..
IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO GO ON THE INTERNET AND, YOU WANT TO WATCH A FULL LENGTH MOVIE, IT'S THERE TOO , AND
OTHER STUFF IS ON THE INTERNET THAT WAS, NOT AVAILABLE AT THE CHICAGO PUBLIC LIBRARY.. ...but...

(I won't go into the other stuff). ............. .

Why is this post necessary? It is necessary for me because times have changed. (a whole lot)....
ALSO...young people they think they know it all.......AND.... those young people don't have a clue. (according to Stu)

...........Times have changed according to Stu.........(but that is my perspective only) . .........
