Alicia Machado Fires Back: Misogyny One Of Trump’s ‘More Frightening' Traits

Source: TPM

Former Miss Universe Alicia Machado fired back at Donald Trump on Friday after the Republican nominee sent off a fusillade of tweets calling her “disgusting” and falsely claiming that she appeared in a “sex tape.”

In an Instagram post, Machado dismissed his attacks as “slanderous and cheap lies” in keeping with his history of derogatory remarks about women.

“Through his campaign of hate, the Republican candidate insists on discrediting and demoralizing a woman, which is definitely one of his more frightening characteristics,” Machado wrote in Spanish, alongside a photo of her posing draped in the American flag. “With this, he’s looking to distract attention from his real problems and from his inability to claim to be the leader of this great country.”

“When I was barely a young woman, the now-candidate publicly humiliated me, insulted me, disrespected me publicly, as he usually did in private in the cruelest way,” she continued, charging that Trump repeated the behavior “with other women for decades.”

Wisconsin Is Systematically Failing to Provide the Photo IDs Required to Vote in November

Source: The Nation

Madison, WI— Zack Moore, a 34-year-old African-American man, moved from Chicago to Madison last year. He worked at a car wash and then a landscaping job before breaking his leg and becoming unemployed. After staying with his brother, he’s now homeless and sleeping on the streets of Madison.

On September 22, he went to the DMV to get a photo ID for voting, as required by Wisconsin’s strict voter-ID law. He brought his Illinois photo ID, Social Security card, and a pay stub for proof of residence. But he didn’t have a copy of his birth certificate, which had been misplaced by his sister in Illinois, so the DMV wouldn’t give him an ID for voting. “I’m trying to get a Wisconsin ID so I can vote,” Moore told the DMV. “I don’t have my birth certificate, but I got everything else.”

Under Wisconsin law, the DMV should’ve given Moore a credential he could use for voting within six business days. But that never happened. They told him to “drive down there [to Illinois] and get [a birth certificate] and come back.” That would cost Moore money he didn’t have. If he entered what the state calls the ID Petition Process (IDPP), it would take six to eight weeks for him to get a voter ID and he most likely wouldn’t be able to vote by Election Day.

“I’m disappointed in the government,” Moore said after leaving the DMV. “I guess they’re trying to keep people from voting.”

<snip>

(Claudell Boyd, a 62-year-old African-American man) His parents were born in Mississippi, at a time when most African-Americans in the state couldn’t vote. Now history is repeating itself up north. “It looks like Wisconsin is making it harder for people like me to vote,” he said.

Will These Anti-Trump Ads Be the Killer Spots of the 2016 Campaign?

Source: Mother Jones

The Clinton campaign has released sharp ads attacking Donald Trump for his erratic temperament, his long history of misogynistic remarks, and his lack of foreign policy experience. But one of the most eviscerating ad efforts of the fall (so far) has come from a progressive outfit in Ohio, which has launched a series of spots slamming the GOP presidential nominee for having repeatedly stiffed contractors.

The effort was inspired by a June USA Today article that reported that Donald Trump has been involved in more than 3,500 lawsuits, with many of them involving contractors and individuals who claimed that Trump or his companies had not paid them for the work and services they provided. This story bolstered one of the anti-Trump themes of the 2016 campaign: that this guy is a cheapskate who screws the folks who work for him. In fact, in February, Kellyanne Conway, months before becoming Trump's campaign manager, denounced Trump on this front, saying he had "actually built a lot of his businesses on the backs of the little guy" and had a history of "not paying contractors after [they've] built something" for Trump. And at the first debate between Trump and Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee asked Trump, "[Do the] people that you have stiffed over the course of your business not deserve some kind of apology from someone who has taken their labor, taken the goods that they've produced and then refused to pay them?" Trump, replying to one case, huffed, "Maybe he didn't do a good job, and I was unsatisfied with his work."

This was one of the worst moments for Trump during that debate, and ProgressOhio, a liberal group, is hoping to keep this line of attack alive in perhaps the most crucial of the swing states. The organization has created several ads featuring first-person testimonials of contractors who say Trump skipped out on paying them. In one ad, a contractor hired to work at Trump's Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, maintains that Trump did not pay his small, family-run business a $232,000 bill. Due to this loss, he says, "My dad had to lay off his own brother."

Here are the ads:

If anyone doesn't want to believe that a Donald has issues, they need to view his Cincinnati speech:

Lots of craziness and several strident breaths & sniffles.

If people don't see his behavior as bizarre, then they will never see it. Crazy.

He kind of reminds me of Perry Logan (long-time DUers will get the reference) in this speech.

* For example, checkout 13:00+ and 45:30++... totally manic and pressured speech!

Rocker Grace Potter Honors Women of NASA in Music Video

Source: Space.com

Singer-songwriter Grace Potter debuted an inspiring new space-themed music video highlighting the accomplishments of past, present and future women of NASA.

The music video, "Look What We've Become," was created in collaboration with NASA's Johnson Space Center, where the video was filmed. It showcases women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), and aims to empower and inspire the next generation, according to a statement from NASA.

"So much of this song is about when you are coming up through any part of your life and you face challenges, there are so many different ways that can affect you and change the course of your life," Potter said in the statement. "I think that it creates a strength within you if you do make the choice to push onward and say, 'I know that this might be more difficult than another path. That's why I want to do it.'" [Women in Space: A Gallery of Firsts]

The music video covers nearly every aspect of NASA: Mission Control, ground experiments, astronauts floating in microgravity aboard the International Space Station, training exercises in the Neutral Buoyancy Lab, astronauts gearing up for launch, and, of course, Potter rocking a spacesuit.
