It's happening again. Every few months, like a chronic rash....

Some new excuse arises for a bitter few to rekindle old wars and open old wounds between Obama supporters and three or four other DU groups.

GD is meta. Anything goes. Shit on other democrats, call out members, do it carefully and your OP won't be hidden.

To wit:

So... how did YOU become a racist?

Elizabeth Warren: Poutrage or Hate?

It's like Junior High all over again!

I am encouraged, however, by this post: Why the fuck...

Hi, BOG!

Dear billh58, ya live in Delaware, not in Hawaii. Transparency and honesty, good things.

You have visited Maui, Oahu, and what we call the big island.

Thank you for playing, and have a nice day.

I've been there too many times without really absorbing the facts.

I am aware of the county jurisdictions, that's part of my job.

And, thank you, I always enjoy my work and doubly so in the islands!

6. Robb, I apologize

for contributing to sliming this place up, and if you want, please delete this thread. I can re-post the Hawaii gun laws now that the disrupter is gone.

Our government should do much more, but purchasers of these garments are not without blame. (links)

It's fine to blame the government but we also could all do a bit more to try to buy American goods or at least do a little bit of research to see what brands or countries of origin to avoid.

Usually, widespread popular boycotts work faster than government reform.

Skinner, Calling all Second Amendment Supporters "Homophobic" and "Sexist" is fucking crazy.

.
First:

GENUINE homophobia and sexism are FAR more serious problems than to allow for this kind of Guilt by Association Bullshit.

I alerted on this offensive sig line:

'RKBA,' 'pro-2nd amendment,' and 'pro gun rights' (among other pro-NRA talking points/memes) are code words for pro-racist, pro-sexist, pro-homophobic, and pro-white supremacist views. It is that simple. Bolding suggestion by Jump Prologue (IYKWIM). Thanks!

Posting again, with emphasis:

''RKBA,' 'pro-2nd amendment,' and 'pro gun rights' are code words for pro-racist, pro-sexist, pro-homophobic, and pro-white supremacist views.

In other words, if you don't agree with me on Guns, you're a HOMOPHOBE and a RACIST.

I originally alerted with a TOS check, hopefully this will be seen as a TOS violation.

Here'a a clever post with the jury results.

I wonder if the community, especially members of diverse sexual orientations and members of color, think this is an appropriate message for a sigline.

TIA.

IMO most don't really know what a semi-automatic is, they're picturing a fully automatic machine gun

That's the problem with polls: there's no filtering for how knowledgeable respondents are about the subject.

Which makes these emotional polls and little more.

Here's another graphic from the article:

Bookmarking.

We are expecting a significant amount of traffic through election day and beyond. Elad has installed an additional front-end server but we still expect to have to disable certain forum functions once the load on our servers becomes too great. During these times it is absolutely necessary to remove these functions otherwise the servers will crash and the site will be unavailable to everyone.

In order to keep DU running during periods of extremely high traffic we have a system of levels in place. As traffic to the site increases, certain functions are removed at each level. When this happens a notification will appear on the Latest page indicating what level we're on. The effects of these levels are described below.

LEVEL 1
Advanced Search is unavailable
Latest page Milestones are not displayed
The red text that indicates a post has been edited is not displayed
Cool section is removed from the homepage

LEVEL 2
The right column is removed from the Latest page
Latest page customization options are unavailable

LEVEL 3
Some navigational images are not displayed
Posts counts are not displayed
Signature lines are not displayed
Stars are not displayed
Avatars are not displayed
The homepage is replaced with a static HTML file

LEVEL 4
The discussion forum is available to registered members only

LEVEL 5
The discussion forum is available to Star Members only

A word of warning: there is a strong possibility that -- at least for certain periods of time -- we will have to operate at Level 5 on election night. To prepare for this possibility you can purchase a Star Membership here if you have not done so already.

Please understand that under extreme circumstances these measures do become necessary in order to keep the site running for as long as possible, for as many people as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Easy to believe. There are 18 successful suicides by veterans per day. I know one of them.

Per day.

Eighteen.

Successful, not attempted, suicides.

A Veteran’s Death, the Nation’s Shame

April 14, 2012
Nicholas D. Kristof

HERE’S a window into a tragedy within the American military: For every soldier killed on the battlefield this year, about 25 veterans are dying by their own hands.

An American soldier dies every day and a half, on average, in Iraq or Afghanistan. Veterans kill themselves at a rate of one every 80 minutes. More than 6,500 veteran suicides are logged every year — more than the total number of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq combined since those wars began.

These unnoticed killing fields are places like New Middletown, Ohio, where Cheryl DeBow raised two sons, Michael and Ryan Yurchison, and saw them depart for Iraq. Michael, then 22, signed up soon after the 9/11 attacks.

Squeee?

My new friend from two plus weeks ago, free dog from a family I met at a flea market that cared enough to find a home for her.

Fierce and awesome, we have not picked a name. Probable a Westie/Silky mix...

It is what it is: a better commercial model probably lacking the soul of the original DU.

Original Subject Line: ATTN: Skinner and EarlG who will, no doubt, compose a thoughtful response.

Visitors to the Meta-discussion forum will have noticed a lot of discussion concerning access by former DU2 moderators to their moderator forum.

This is no secret to anyone who continued to visit both forums, something which is possible to this very day.

There are, however, details about the process of moderation and the access that mods might have had to member information that can ONLY BE ADDRESSED by the administrators.

The reasons for this are:

A: The moderator confidentiality agreement posted here and pasted below prevents any of us from discussing anything that MIGHT go a long way toward calming nerves and restoring confidence.

B: Moderators were not insiders, we don't know what the admins think, and in the end they own the site and are the ones who should answer to any concerns of the membership.

In closing, I sincerely hope that the administrators will find time to do their best to answer any and all concerns, especially as they relate membership information privacy and to the transition time between DU2 and DU3, and the access that moderators were provided until yesterday, and why.

Because we can't explain it without breaking the rules we've agreed to abide by, in perpetuity.

Thanks to Call Me Wesley for finding what I believe is the most recent form of the agreement.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12593371#post1 [div class=excerpt]http://www.democraticunderground.com/124384291 http://www.democraticunderground.com/124384554 1. It need not be unanimous. But there must be the consensus. I tend to think that if one person is strongly opposed to a lock, and is making that stand based on some principle they are able to articulate, then that position should be respected and consensus does not exist. But if some people are just-kinda-meh-not-sure opposed to a lock, then you can assume that consensus exists. But I think the bigger picture is that if everyone is doing the job in good faith and being polite to each other, then it should not be very hard to determine if consensus exists and act accordingly. http://www.democraticunderground.com/12595617 [/div] ~~~~~~ Hi Jerry!!![link:http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1269|Visit the new DU \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Progressive Media Resources Group\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"] http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/dam/assets/121223012937-11-obama-face-1223-horizontal-gallery.jpg [link:http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1269|Visit the new DU \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Progressive Media Resources Group\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"] http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/dam/assets/121223012937-11-obama-face-1223-horizontal-gallery.jpg [link:http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1269| Visit the new DU Progressive Media Resources Group] http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l217/Shockwave_73/warren_2016_bumper_sticker.jpg blue color is color:#0000ff
