US F-22s intercept Russian bombers off Alaska coast

Washington (CNN)Two Russian TU-95 Bear bombers were intercepted in international airspace off the coast of Alaska by two US F-22 Raptor fighter aircraft on Monday, the Pentagon confirmed to CNN.

The intercept, which was described by a US military official as safe and professional, took place about 100 miles from Kodiak Island after the Russian aircraft flew into the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone.

There was no cockpit-to-cockpit radio communication between the US and Russian pilots, the US official told CNN.

'Captain Marvel' Concept Art Revealed; Mystery Director Has Been Selected

Though nobody from Captain Marvel was on hand last night, Ant-Man and The Wasp director Peyton Reed was part of the program, which mostly featured concept art, and indicated that a director for Captain Marvel has finally been selected. Despite refusing to name the director, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige did say that we would be finding out soon. We’ve known for some time that Marvel Studios would prefer a female director for the film and Feige seemed to reiterate that, along with assuring the guests that the crew for the film would be diverse as well.

The concept art on display will likely settle the uneasy minds of many fans, as it appears that Carol Davners’s costume will be a riff on her modern outfit. The art was described to us as having her modern look but with “armor like the Dark Knight.” Our great friends at That Hashtag Show believe that this fan art is about as close as they’ve seen to the concept art:

Marvel producer Jeremy Latcham cautioned that her outfit in the concept art might change before production actually begins, but it’s hard to believe they’d go the classic route. It’s also worth noting that the concept art did not show Larson in a helmet or with a mohawk, two pieces of the current costume that really seem to generate a lot of curiosity.

Oregon man dies 'peacefully' after told Trump was impeached

An Oregon man died "peacefully" after a friend falsely told him that President Trump had been impeached.

Michael Garland Elliot died on April 6, according to his obituary in The Oregonian, and the final words he heard were that the president had been impeached.

Elliot’s “ex-wife and best friend” Teresa Elliot shared the false news to bring him comfort in his final moments, according to the obit.
"Mike ran out of family long ago and is survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Teresa Elliott," the obituary read. "Though their marriage ran aground, their friendship only grew stronger and hers was the last voice Mike heard. And the last thing she said to him was 'Donald Trump has been impeached.' Upon hearing that he took his final, gentle breath, his earthly work concluded,” reads the obituary.

The obituary said Elliot, a native of Charlottesville, Va., died “surrounded by people who loved him dearly and cared for him selflessly during the last months of his life.”

UC, Davis Student Senate Makes Flying American Flag Optional

The student senate at the University of California, Davis has now made it optional to fly the U.S. flag at meetings. They reached the decision Thursday night, according to Fox 40.

Now it’s no longer required to hoist Old Glory when they get together. It’s up to a senator or ex-officio to petition the senate pro tempore 24 hours before a meeting. Then the Pro Tempore will decide whether to outright approve or reject the measure, or make it depend on a full senate vote.

“In accordance with the understanding that the concept of the US and patriotism is different for every individual, it should not be compulsory that the flag is in view at senate meetings,” the background text reads.

Bill author Itamar Waksman said that while the flag was previously required, they didn’t even have a flag in the first place. It wasn’t even a topic of discussion until he made the bill, the recently-naturalized U.S. citizen said.
