Georgia GOPer warns black attorney she may go missing if she tries to remove Confederate monument

A Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives issued a veiled threat of lynching to a black former colleague who expressed anti-Confederate memorial sentiments on his Facebook.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia State Rep. Jason Spencer (R) did exactly that on a Facebook post when former state representative LaDawn Jones expressed a distaste for a photo he took with a Confederate monument.

“This is Georgia’s history,” Spencer wrote on a post accompanied by a selfie he took with a South Georgia monument to Confederate president Jefferson Davis.

Jones, who formerly served in the state legislature until last year, questioned whether state tax dollars help pay for the upkeep of the memorial, which includes the house Davis fled to after the Civil War ended. A few comments in, Spencer began making threatening allusions.

“Continue your quixotic journey into South Georgia and it will not be pleasant,” Spencer replied. “The truth. Not a warning. Those folks won’t put up with it like they do in Atlanta.”

“I can guarantee you won’t be met with torches but something a lot more definitive,” he continued, responding to Jones’ comment about the store-bought tiki torches used by the white supremacists at the Charlottesville rally earlier this month.

RED TO BLUE: Democratic-backed candidate flips seat on Fairfax County School Board

Fairfax County voters elected a Democratic-backed candidate to the school board Tuesday in a special election that was cast by some as a test of the Democratic Party’s strength in the Northern Virginia county.

Karen Keys-Gamarra, an attorney and child advocate, won the at-large seat with nearly 41,000 votes, according to preliminary results Tuesday night.

Chris Grisafe, a federal contractor endorsed by the Fairfax County Republican Committee, received about 21,000 votes. Fewer than 70,000 people cast ballots, according to results, putting turnout at about 10 percent.

Keys-Gamarra will fill the seat of Jeannette Hough, who left the board in June after her husband accepted a work assignment overseas. Hough, who held the at-large seat on the 12-member board, was elected in 2015 with an endorsement from the Fairfax County Republican Committee and was one of three GOP-backed members.

Ivanka Trump brand clothing is turning up in thrift stores across the country

Americans say they are purging Ivanka Trump-brand clothing from their closets and bringing it to thrift stores because they refuse to associate with the businesswoman’s father — President Trump.

Tess Bradley, a Pennsylvania resident, said she felt obliged to part ways with an Ivanka Trump scarf she loved after Trump became President.

“Her name was huge on it and in all good consciousness I could not promote anything Trump,” she told the Daily News.

And so she took it to Goodwill, after an upscale consignment store failed to sell it.

Bradley and other women are taking their Ivanka Trump-brand wares to secondhand stores across the country in order to distance themselves from the ever-divisive President, Fortune reported.

Anti-Marxist group plans to block Golden Gate Bridge in Wednesday morning rally

The newly created Facebook community Conservative Rustles, headed by apparent San Francisco resident John Walters Monroe, has invited Identity Evropa and the “alt-right” to gather at Lincoln Boulevard and U.S. Highway 101 around 9 a.m., then march to the Golden Gate Bridge.

“The City of San Francisco government has made it clear that they support Antifa,” Conservative Rustles wrote in the event posting on Facebook, referring to “anti-fascist” groups that have counter-protested at many right-wing rallies.

On the event page, the group said, “We will not let traffic pass until the city of San Francisco agrees that ‘Antifa’ is a terrorist organization. Why should we move if you support a terrorist organization?”

Organizers also invited any parents in attendance to bring their children, because “Antifa wouldn’t dare hurt the future generation of America, or would they…?”

According to the Conservative Rustles Facebook page, the group is “all about denying communist ideology in any way shape or form.”

Monroe did not immediately respond Tuesday to an email requesting additional details about the event, himself or his group’s anti-communist ideology, but his invitation to Identity Evropa may signal an association with fringe elements on the far right.

Flood insurance splits GOP, spurs bipartisan dealmaking as deadline looms

LOUISIANA — Coastal state Republicans are bucking members of their own party and teaming up with Democrats as lawmakers struggle to salvage an agreement to keep the National Flood Insurance Program alive.

Dozens of Republicans from New York to Mississippi have fought proposals by the House Financial Services Committee that they say would make flood insurance unaffordable. A member of the House leadership, Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, is among those uneasy with the panel’s plans. And in the Senate, Republicans are joining with Democrats to find a deal before the program lapses at the end of next month.

In contrast to the party-line approaches surrounding health care and tax reform, geographic boundaries are trumping partisan divisions in the flood insurance debate.

“Floodwater has a way of making it pretty clear what the priorities are," Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.) said.

At issue is the future of a government backstop that protects millions of Americans from the financial risks of flooding, but at a steep cost: The program has racked up almost $25 billion in debt. Its survival is a concern that is being grimly highlighted this weekend as the remnants of Hurricane Harvey inundate Texas.

Sandy Hook victims sister rejects apology from Scott Baio over false flag Heather Heyer tweet

The sister of a teacher slain in the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting has rejected an apology from actor Scott Baio over a Twitter message he posted alleging that the death of anti-racist protester Heather Heyer was a “false flag” operation carried out to smear the right.

The New York Daily News said Friday that the former “Happy Days” and “Joanie Loves Chachi” actor tweeted a conspiracy theorist meme alleging that Heyer’s mother and the mother of slain first grade teacher Vicki Soto are the same “crisis actor.”

Baio tweeted the message to his 218,000 followers to forward the idea that the U.S. government is staging fake incidents as part of a disinformation campaign to smear conservatives and limit gun ownership. The notion of “false flag” attacks and “crisis actors” is a bedrock belief of the conspiracy community, promulgated by provocateurs like InfoWars’ Alex Jones, “Pizzagate” blogger Mike Cernovich and fanatical Trump booster Jack Posobiec.

Jillian Soto — Vicki Soto’s sister — joined in the furious backlash against Baio’s tweet. The actor deleted the tweet and apologized, but also blocked Jillian Soto and all of her family members on Twitter.

“I can’t accept an apology from someone who spews hate. Whether he believes it or not, just sharing it has an impact,” she said. “His apology is not real. He personally chose to share this, then he chose to block my family when we tried to defend ourselves. That doesn’t feel like a sincere apology.”

Leader of Patriot Prayer group detained by Berkeley police

BERKELEY (KRON)– Berkeley police detained the nationalist leader of the Patriot Prayer group in Berkeley Sunday afternoon, according to a spokesperson from the group.

Ryoga Viee confirmed that Joey Gibson was apprehended by Berkeley PD along with an associate.

KRON4’s Lydia Pantazes witnessed protesters throwing objects at Gibson and chasing him out of the area.
