Harry Reid Endorses Joe Biden

Former Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid endorsed Joe Biden’s presidential bid on Monday, saying the former vice president’s resume and stability make him the best candidate to beat President Trump, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Said Reid: “President Donald Trump has done unspeakable damage to our country, our institutions and the rule of law. Democrats need a candidate who can assemble the largest, most diverse coalition possible to defeat Trump and lead our country following the trauma of Trump’s presidency. That candidate is Joe Biden.”

How Sanders Hopes to Knock Warren Out of the Race

Vice: “Warren has spent the past days chasing frantically across the country in a desperate search for Super Tuesday delegates. But her biggest problem might be back at home. Warren faces the real risk of losing Massachusetts to Sanders, a blow that could knock her out of the race. And as Warren raced from South Carolina to Alabama to Texas, Sanders dropped into her home state this weekend to try to seal her fate.”

“Three separate polls released in recent days show he’s right. Sanders, from neighboring Vermont, has inched ahead of Warren in her home state, buoyed by his strong showing in the early states and Warren’s failure to finish higher than third place in any of them.”

“A home-state loss would be devastating to Warren. It’s hard to see how she would continue after Super Tuesday at that point, especially since Massachusetts shapes up as by far her best chance of winning a Super Tuesday state.”

Supreme Court will once again consider fate of Affordable Care Act

The Supreme Court will hear a third challenge to the Affordable Care Act, this time at the request of Democratic-controlled states that are fighting a lower court decision that challenged the constitutionality of the law.

The court’s review will probably come in the term that begins in October, which would not leave time for a decision before the November election. The law remains in effect.

The court earlier had turned down a motion by the House of Representatives and Democratic-led states to hear the case this term.

They want review of a decision last year by a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. The panel struck down the law’s mandate that individuals buy health insurance but sent back to a lower court the question of whether the rest of the statute can stand without it. The lower court had said the entire law must fall.

Republicans plot blue-state invasion in November if Sanders is nominee

National Republicans are launching a multi-million-dollar field effort in four blue states, a move that comes as Democrats express mounting concern that a Bernie Sanders nomination could doom them in critical down-ballot contests.

The Republican National Committee is deploying dozens of field staffers to California, New Jersey, New York and Illinois. While none of the four states is remotely in play at the presidential level, each has numerous competitive House races and played a critical role in helping Democrats capture the chamber in 2018.

The committee is also dispatching staff to Nebraska. While the state is certain to go for President Donald Trump in November, it is home to the district where endangered Republican Rep. Don Bacon is seeking reelection.

The RNC plans to spend at least $4 million on field deployment across the five states by Election Day, according to an aide briefed on the decision. It's an unusual investment, since the committee typically focuses its field resources exclusively on swing states in presidential election years.

Republican officials say they've been planning the blue state effort for months — long before Sanders emerged as a Democratic frontrunner — and insist the Democratic primary had no bearing on their decision. The RNC's massive, seven-to-one financial advantage over the Democratic National Committee, aides say, has afforded them the luxury of investing in states that aren’t in play in the presidential contest.
