NV-SEN: Laxalt campaign operative linked to Twitter account that denigrated Jews, women.

Until it was suddenly removed from Twitter on Thursday, an anonymous account called “LaxaltStan” — which spent much of its time posting bigoted comments denigrating Jews, women and gay and transgender people, among other groups — had made sure to emphasize in an all-caps disclaimer that it was “NOT AFFILIATED” with Adam Laxalt, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Nevada.

But a review of past social media activity contradicts that assertion, linking the account to a right-wing political operative who has received payments from the Laxalt campaign as recently as late August, according to filings from the Federal Election Commission.

In a now-deleted tweet uncovered on the Internet Archive’s WayBack Machine, the anonymous user behind the account directly identified himself as Michael Pecjak, a conservative activist from Nevada who has previously served as a campaign staffer for a former Republican House candidate in the Las Vegas area, among other roles.

“Go follow my main @MichaelPecjak,” the “LaxaltStan” account declared last March, directing users to Pecjak’s personal profile. It is no longer available on Twitter but remains viewable in an archived screenshot captured just a month before by the WayBack Machine.

In the profile’s biographical section, Pecjak — who has also publicly used “Pecjak-Sanchez” as his surname — described himself as a political director for Carolina Serrano, a former Trump campaign staffer who has promoted election-related conspiracy theories while calling to dissolve the FBI and Justice Department. In January, she was endorsed by Laxalt — a former attorney general of Nevada who has also trafficked in far-right conspiracy theories — but failed to advance past the June Republican primary in the state’s redrawn 1st Congressional District.

At Least 140 Killed in India as Suspension Bridge Collapses

NEW DELHI — At least 140 people were killed after a century-old pedestrian bridge collapsed in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Sunday evening, sending hundreds plunging into the Machchhu River, officials said.

About 350 people were on and around the bridge, a major tourist attraction, at the time of the collapse, said Brijesh Merja, a minister in the Gujarat government. A large number of those who died were children, women and older people, according to officials.

The bridge collapsed four days after it was reopened to the public and about seven months after the start of renovation work. Built in 1880, during the Victorian era, it is about 755 feet long.

Video broadcast by local television channels showed people swimming to a portion of the bridge suspended in the water, with more than a dozen struggling to cling to the edge as they waited to be rescued. Children and women could be heard crying for help.

Goldman Sachs Now Sees Fed Rates Peaking at 5% in March

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. economists said they now expect the US Federal Reserve to raise interest rates to 5%, higher than previously predicted.

The central bank will lift its benchmark rate to a range of 4.75% to 5% in March, 25 basis points more than earlier expected, economists led by Jan Hatzius wrote in a research report.

The route to the new peak includes increases of 75 basis points this week, 50 basis points in December and 25 basis points in February and March, they said.

The economists cited three reasons for expecting the Fed to hike beyond February: “uncomfortably high” inflation, the need to cool the economy as fiscal tightening ends and price-adjusted incomes climb, and to avoid a premature easing of financial conditions.

Former partner of accused Paul Pelosi attacker DePape reveals new details about suspect

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The former partner of the man accused of violently attacking Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband at their San Francisco home on Friday is revealing new details about the suspect.

"Hello this is Gypsy Taub. I am the ex-life partner of David DePape and the mother of his children," said Oxane Taub, calling from the Californian Institution For Women in Corona, California.

Taub -- better known as "Gypsy" -- is a well-known nudist activist who spoke with ABC7 in 2013 at a protest in San Francisco.

"We just wanted to test the waters to see how much the police department respected our first amendment rights," said Taub in 2013. Now she's revealing a longtime relationship with David DePape.

"He is mentally ill. He has been mentally ill for a long time," said Taub, who last year was found guilty on 20 counts, including the attempted abduction of a 14-year-old boy near his Berkeley high school.

Iron County (MO) police arrest man they say threatened to shoot bus with AR-15

IRON COUNTY, Mo. — The Iron County Sheriff's Office and Annapolis Police Department arrested a man Friday afternoon after he threatened to shoot a bus.

The sheriff's office got a call at about 3:00 p.m. Friday regarding a man armed with an AR-15 threatening to cause harm to others. He was dressed in camouflage.

According to witnesses, the man said he was going to shoot a nearby bus.

As a bus driver reached his routine stop Friday afternoon, he noticed the armed suspect at the entrance of Hidden Valley and Missouri Highway 49. The bus driver decided to keep driving.

The sheriff's office identified the man as Bryan Baldwin.

Annapolis Police Chief Ben Starnes secured Baldwin within minutes and took him into custody. At the time of his arrest, Baldwin was in possession of an AR-15 with two loaded magazines and a handgun.
