Men Try To Guess If These Situations Are Porn Or #MeToo Stories

Men Try To Guess If These Situations Are Porn Or #MeToo Stories
Over 80 percent of porn scenes contain some form of physical aggression toward women.

Porn or #MeToo?

That’s the question two filmmakers recently asked a group of men for a new video project titled “Be Frank.” Created by Dutch natives Damayanti Dipayana and Camilla Borel-Rinkes, “Be Frank” is a seven-minute film featuring men discussing the recent #MeToo movement and the role men can play in combating sexual violence.

“The project aims to close that gap and enables men to be part of the conversation and the solution,” Dipayana told HuffPost. “Additionally, being Dutch may have something to do with it ... we’re known to be quite frank about any and every topic.”

In the above “Be Frank” clip, Dipayana and Borel-Rinkes asked men to read different storylines and then guess whether the situation was from a pornography script or a #MeToo story. The #MeToo campaign, originally created by activist Tarana Burke, has recently sparked a cultural reckoning with how we deal with sexual violence around the world.

Although it’s revealed at the end of the clip that all of the stories are porn scripts, many of the guys have trouble discerning which ones are porn and which ones are sexual assault.

<snip>

The depiction of violence against women in porn has long been a point of contention. Some people believe porn perpetuates rape culture and violence against women by repeatedly portraying women in demeaning or non-consensual sexual situations. Others believe porn can be a healthy and necessary sexual outlet for many viewers.

Mostly, it comes down to the fact that porn serves as a stand-in for sexual education for many young men due to a glaring lack of comprehensive sex-ed programs in the U.S.

The suspect faces a criminal negligence charge.

A Florida man is facing negligence charges after his 5-year-old son fatally shot himself in the head with a gun he found in the glove box of the man’s car.

Jamal Daniel Todman was arrested Monday and charged with negligent storage of a firearm in connection with the Oct. 4 death of his son Judah.

The accidental shooting happened outside an Orlando day care center, while Todman, 34, was inside picking up his 3-year-old son, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

It’s unclear how long Judah was left in the car by himself. However, when his father and brother came back, the gun from the car’s glove box was on the floor, and Judah was slumped over with blood on his head, according to WESH.

The boy was rushed to a hospital across the street, but died from self-inflicted shooting wounds.

Gunshot wounds are now the third leading cause of childhood deaths in the U.S., according to a study published earlier this year in the journal Pediatrics.

Doug Jones Says Congress Should ‘Move On’ From Trump Sexual Misconduct Allegations
Earlier this month, Alabama’s senator-elect called on Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) to resign over groping accusations.

Doug Jones said it’s time for his fellow Democrats to “move on” from focusing on the numerous sexual misconduct allegations against President Donald Trump.

<snip>

″People had an opportunity to judge before that election,” Jones said. “I think we need to move on and not get distracted by those issues.”

“I don’t think the president ought to resign at this point,” he continued. “We’ll see how things go.”

<snip>

Earlier this month, Jones called on Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) to resign over mounting groping allegations against him. On Dec. 7, Franken announced he would be stepping aside in the near future.

<snip>

“Well, again, I go back to the fact that those allegations were made and he was elected president of the United States,” Jones said. “At this point, we need to move on and try to work with some real issues that are facing the country and not worry about getting at odds with the president any more than we have to.”

Police Shoot a Lot More People Than Previously Known
A new investigation reveals that the number of people being shot—and shot at—by police is troubling.
By Kali Holloway / AlterNet
December 15, 2017, 2:26 PM GMT

In major metropolitan areas around the country over the last half-decade, police have shot—and shot at—people in numbers dramatically higher than previous tallies suggest. A new Vice News investigation finds that between 2010-2016, cops in the 50 largest police departments in the country shot more than 3,630 people, nearly double some previous estimates. Of the 4,381 people cops fired upon in that period—including the 700 people they shot at and missed—two-thirds survived those shootings.

Absent a comprehensive federal database of police shootings, the Vice report offers the most complete picture of fatal and nonfatal police shootings available.

The data analysis also found that police shot black people “more often and at higher rates than any other race,” and “two and a half times more often than white people.” Vice found that cops shot no fewer than 1,664 black people in the period studied, comprising “55 percent of the total and more than double the share of the black population in these communities.” Twenty percent of the African Americans tallied were shot following “relatively innocuous pedestrian or traffic stops,” which was true for just 16 percent of whites shot by police. Those figures are of particular importance considering that studies find black drivers are more likely to be stopped by cops based on less evidence, less likely than their white peers to be spoken to respectfully during those stops, and more likely to be ticketed and arrested than white drivers.

While police narratives of shootings studied by Vice suggest the majority of blacks shot by cops were themselves involved in shootings or robberies, the proliferation of cell phone and body camera footage that contradicts police versions of events brings the trustworthiness of those numbers into question. Many videos made public after the fact have illustrated that shootings initially described by police as being self-defensive were in fact extrajudicial executions of African Americans. Unquestionably, some shootings of black citizens result from actual crimes being committed. But the demonstrated fallibility of police accounts shows that in a disturbing number of cases, police officers “shoot first and come up with reasons later.” The Vice News investigation finds that a significant number of people (20 percent) shot by police were unarmed. Among those, 44 percent were African American.

“It is a complex picture, but what’s clear is that black people are more likely to be unarmed, and that more of these sort of low-level incidents escalate to shootings,” Samuel Sinyangwe, data analyst and co-founder of police reform organization Campaign Zero, told Vice.

<snip>

One of the few positive trends in the numbers Vice examined is a 20 percent downturn in police shootings since 2014, the result of Obama-era reforms in response to Department of Justice recommendations. Of the 10 cities that saw the largest drops in police shootings, seven complied with changes proposed by the federal government.

<snip>

That downturn is likely to end. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has characterized the DOJ’s work with local police departments as “federal intrusion,” and ordered a review of all reform agreements aimed at curbing civil rights violations and police abuses. "It is not the responsibility of the federal government to manage non-federal law enforcement agencies,” Sessions stated in a two-page memo issued earlier this year.

Steve Bannon Dragged After Roy Moore Loss: He Looks Like Some Disheveled Drunk

Steve Bannon Dragged After Roy Moore Loss: ‘He Looks Like Some Disheveled Drunk’

That quote isn’t from a Democrat. It’s from a Republican
Jon Levine | Last Updated: December 13, 2017 @ 6:56 AM

<snip>

Bannon was humble in his first public comments on the loss, which he delivered on Breitbart radio on Wednesday.

‘The Democrats hustled, and people have got to understand: You don’t turn out, they’re going to turn out,” he said. “Hat tip to these guys at the DNC. They slipped in here under the radar scope and did a great ground game. Of all the other convergence of forces … just out-hustling and outworking people is a big one.”

GOP Rep. Pete King says Bannon needs to leave politics. "He looks like some disheveled drunk who wandered onto the national stage," King tells @ChrisCuomo

— Manu Raju (@mkraju) December 13, 2017

Bannon’s is a non-falsifiable theory. If he wins, he’s right. If he loses, he’s right. If his guy prevails, his finger was on the pulse; if his guy goes down, he was sabotaged. In a few months he’ll be wandering around a park muttering about the Kulaks. https://t.co/AvsWoPURSr

Congrats to two-shirted strategic genius Steve Bannon who deftly maneuvered the GOP into a crushing senate loss IN ALABAMA

Bannon going back to the drawing board to tweak his candidate recruitment process.

Instead of a candidate that dates kids and keeps a horse in the barn, he's gonna find one that dates horses and keeps a kid in a barn.

Steve Bannon is probably the best strategist the DNC has right now

We want to be good winners but can we just take a moment this glorious morning after to say: ???? you, Steve Bannon. ???? you and your hate machine. ???? you and your plan to disrupt and tear down this country. ???? you and your racist, sexist dog whistles. And simply ???? you. OK, thanks.

Fox News Corrects Story Claiming Roy Moore Accuser Forged Candidates Signature

Fox News Corrects Story Claiming Roy Moore Accuser ‘Forged’ Candidate’s Signature

A handwriting expert has verified that the woman’s yearbook signature belongs to Senate candidate Moore, according to Gloria Allred.
By Sara Boboltz

Fox News updated a story that erroneously claimed one of Roy Moore’s accusers had “forged” evidence she’d presented to bolster her claim against him.

Beverly Young Nelson said in a press conference with attorney Gloria Allred in November that the Republican Alabama Senate candidate had sexually assaulted her in the late 1970s when she was a teen and he was in his 30s. Nelson produced a yearbook signed by Moore last month as proof he had known her.

In a Friday press conference, Allred said Nelson had noted beneath the inscription when and where she recalled Moore writing it. Nelson also confirmed she had made the notes during an interview with ABC’s Tom Llamas.

“Beverly, he signed your yearbook,” Llamas stated.

“He did sign it,” Nelson affirmed.

“And you made some notes underneath,” he continued.

“Yes,” she said.

<snip>

Moore shared a tweet from Fox containing the misleading headline; however, while Fox has since deleted its tweet, Moore has not deleted his. President Trump also seized on the yearbook comments to attack Nelson at a Florida rally.

Fox’s headline has now been updated to “Roy Moore accuser admits she wrote part of yearbook inscription attributed to Alabama Senate candidate,” although the URL of the story still contains the previous language.

<snip>

References to forgery in the original story were also removed, and a note was added to the bottom for clarification.

An update to this story reflects that Beverly Young Nelson admits writing what ABC News characterized as “notes” beneath what she says is Roy Moore’s signature, and that the only notes below the signature are the date and location. Furthermore, the headline on story now specifies that Nelson admits to writing part of the inscription herself, rather than forging part of it.

Allred said Friday that a handwriting expert had verified the signature and inscription in Nelson’s yearbook belonged to Moore.

“To a sweeter, more beautiful girl, I could not say ‘Merry Christmas.’ Love, Roy Moore D.A.,” the note read.

Roy Moore is the last straw, you can now call me a Democrat

Roy Moore is the last straw, you can now call me a Democrat

At the end of the meeting, during the public comment section, I went up to the podium and tore into the council for their “unconscionable” demonstration of pettiness and immaturity. The following day, my local newspaper ran a story that featured a picture of me with my comments quoted in the story.

That’s the day I learned about the power of the press and what can happen when you speak out.

My political identity was forged at a time when the Republican Party, led by President George W. Bush, was embracing the notion of “compassionate conservatism.”

I believed then, as I do right now, that government can be an instrument of good that raises the welfare of it citizens it serves. At the same time I acknowledge that government is in need of checks and balances; that left to its own devices, it resists change, transparency and accountability.

<snip>

On the evening of March 8, 2016, then-Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski got into a physical altercation with then-Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields.

On Friday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m., after Breitbart refused to stand by Fields, I informed the organization that I would no longer be representing it as a spokesman. And so began a long period of self-reflection about my own political compass.

For the first time since I was in high school, I was free from any professional loyalties. It was liberating at first, then very sobering and ultimately just disappointing. I couldn’t understand how so many in the GOP could stand by, silently, as Donald Trump and Steve Bannon remade and redefined the Republican Party. An unrelenting assault on the Constitution, the free press and freedom of expression while Republican “leaders” do nothing. Ignoring legitimate issues about race relations in America, environmental policy, gun reform and equality to instead pander to a lunatic fringe that subscribes to an ideology of hate and fear.

Which brings us to Roy Moore and the Alabama Senate race.

President Trump and the Republican National Committee are endorsing, supporting and funding Moore because they would rather elect a sexual predator who preys on underage teenagers at the local mall, than a crime-fighting prosecutor who happens to be a Democrat.

President Donald Trump tweeted an endorsement of Roy Moore, who has several sexual misconduct allegations against him. Video provided by Newsy Newslook

This is not a party I want to be associated with any longer.

This is not a party that is trustworthy enough to protect innocent children from sexual predators.

<snip>

The embrace of Moore by the Republican Party’s top “leadership” is all the proof you need to know that this is a party that no longer stands for anything.

I believe that the Democratic Party will do more to create equality in America than the Republican Party ever will.
Roy Moore, left, and Steve Bannon.

I believe that the Democratic Party will do more to protect the freedoms guaranteed to us in the First Amendment than the Republican Party ever could.

I believe that the Democratic Party will do more to ensure the survival of our planet and its natural resources than the Republican Party ever would.

I am throwing in with the Democratic Party because at the end of the day, I believe its portrait of America is better than the one being painted by today’s Republican Party. And I want to be a part of it.

“Long Island Medium” star Theresa Caputo and husband Larry are separating.

“After 28 years of marriage, we have decided to legally separate. We will always love each other and our two wonderful children,” the couple told People in a joint statement. “We are united in supporting each other and our family. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

<snip>

Larry and adult children Larry Jr. and Victoria have been along for the ride, but her estranged husband has been absent in recent episodes, as their marital troubles have come to light.

<snip>

“I’m in the middle of a reading with Erin, and my own emotions about my relationship with Larry got the best of me,” she said. “This is a really hard time right now with Larry and I, and I don’t know what is going to happen. It’s just ... It’s wearing on me.”

<snip>

“Since the last season of ‘Long Island Medium,’ Larry and I’s relationship has changed. We’ve been there for each other, you know, through thick and thin, you know, good times, and right now are not such great times,” she said. “I don’t understand it. I lay in bed, and I say to myself, ‘How did this happen? How did I get here?’”

I guess she didn't see it coming, it just wasn't in the cards.

I just heard that the Austin police are currently buying back guns ......

for $50.00 cash cards. About 20ft away are people offering cash to get the "good" ones first. Often at more than $50.00.

Also mentioned in the KUT piece is a story from a larger eastern city (I forget which one) that says that while they could still get records they discovered that two out of three handguns involved with in crime were part of a gun buy back that a criminal or someone else bought at a police gun auction.

Personal story: when my stepson and his best friend from childhood got back from Iraq and mustered out (with an extra 11 months 'stop loss' hitch for my son) within several months the friend committed suicide with my son's shotgun. After the investigation Miami PD asked him to pickup his gun. My son specifically asked it be tossed in the furnace.

About eight months later ATF called my son regarding his shotgun, it had been used in some sort of crime or been confiscated in a raid. He explained how he no longer had any control of the gun and ATF said they would check out his story and they'd be after him if there was any problem with it.

How do police departments get public money to buy back guns to get them off the street and then auction them off to provide another cheap gun to the streets?
