Sometimes one has to "cooperate" with a robber. Other times...

http://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?p=woman+holding+door+against+robber+shoots+video

If you choose to review, choose the video in the Top Left Corner ("Woman with gun...&quot . It depicts a robber (with apparent accomplice) literally breaking down the door of a business while TWO people are trying to prevent the break-in by holding the door. The Robber WON'T LET UP. He continues and continues battering the door.

Would you want to "cooperate" by letting him in? What would you do if you were the lady in this video?

Self-defense and whether one chooses to engage in it are part & parcel of gun-control discussions. There are those who advocate cooperation, there are those who advocate active resistance. With this video, we can see how these points of view move from philosophical and policy considerations to the very tangible. It is graphic, though not repulsive. I cannot vouch for the site nor any comments about the taped incident. It is what it is.

Just Now: Alan Grayson FORCEFULLY opposes Syrian bombing.

PBS NEWS (can't link)

Grayson, a Democrat from Central Florida, thinks the votes are there to quash approval/authorization for strikes in Syria. He is not concerned about political consequences for Obama.

The most forceful presentation of arguments for
non-intervention yet. Handled tough questions with clean, clear, effective manner. And you should see his tie.

Please provide links if you have them.

Note Grayson is from FLORIDA.

Dove season in Texas looms: Sept. 1...

Will be heading NW of Austin about a hundred miles to a little spread with, hopefully, some sunflowers left un-cut. It'll be 100°, but I live without AC and am used to it. And we'll stay over for Labor Day to hunt again! Limit is 15/day with 45 posession limit after the first. Peculiar, since before it was 30 after the opener.

Bought a couple boxes of Estate .12s to go with some Winchesters, and will use the Rem 870 my Dad & Mom got me in 1961. I'll have a Stevens 311D SxS .12 for BU (1955).

Half a dozen of us poppin' away in a cow pasture with steaks over a pit and under the stars later. Baby, it's that time again!

Remember the newspaper who published gun-owner records? Poof!

The editor of the New York newspaper that created a furor by publishing the names and addresses of gun-permit owners suddenly is out of a job.

According to the Rockland Times, a competitor to the Gannett-owned Rockland County Journal News, editor Caryn McBride is among the casualties of a recent purge at the Journal News.

...ALSO...

The Rockland editor said she felt threatened by the complaints, but local police didn’t believe there was a credible threat. McBride and other executives then decided to hire armed guards to protect their property, the Times reported, “causing an uproar due to the perceived hypocrisy of the avowed anti-gun editors hiring gun-toting men.”

...But wait...

The Times also reported that shortly after the publication of the map, authorities said burglars entered the home of one of the gun owners identified by the newspaper, and a gun safe that was on the premises was damaged in a robbery attempt.
______________

We are all hypocrites to a degree. But one shouldn't just get in a hog-waller with it, esp. when the aim of ones game is moral opprobrium.

Wendy Davis: Strong on the Second Amendment.

Already, the national FR network of websites are taking up the uniform, torch-lit chants warning of the heretic, Wendy Davis. But the halls of their mountain king will not ring out with the usual rhetoric about guns. According to Project Vote Smart, Wendy Davis has voted "yea" 3 out of 4 times on gun legislation in the past two years. Her only "no" vote was against legislation allowing guns on college campuses, back in 2011. (IMO, that issue has never been very hot-button, even in Texas.) Her "yea" votes, all this year, are in favor of:

1) Allowing guns in cars when vehicles are on college campuses;

2) Allowing tax breaks for firearms, ammunition and accessories companies to encourage re-location to Texas; and

3) Allowing for school marshals to augment armed security in schools.

Project Vote Smart summarizes one of these bills, the rest are in text form.

Will there be an increase in blacks obtaining concealed carry permits?

Since the Zimmerman trial verdict there has been and continues to be speculation on what the "black community" will do, even to the point of rioting. Charges of racism and "profiling" have been leveled on those who see riots in the offing.

But is it racist to suggest that a substantial number of blacks may arm themselves as a result of the trial verdict, esp. since licensed concealed-carry is not as widespread among blacks? Should blacks now be dissuaded from such action? Who would like to start such a "campaign?" Would an African-American population, legally armed on a parity with "whites," disturb or disrupt one's image of blacks or re-enforce it?

Checking in: My Father's Day tribute to Dad (1919-2005):

(1) Putting me through graduate school

(2) Standing by me when I said I wasn't going to be inducted into the draft (1970)

(3) Teaching me how to safely use and store firearms

(4) Taking me on hunts

(5) Standing up to powerful politicians when performing his duties

(6) Reading, editing and tolerating my attempts at writing

(7) Calling the racists who bullied girls at Little Rock High School "damned cowards!" That forged my values.

Thank you, Dad. Job very well done.

I would if I could afford it. Even hunting "plains" animals is $500+ a day.

Plus air fare & "trophy fees." I'll stick with my Hill Country deer and axis exotics.

Hello! New to the "new DU". How does the link work?

I have been on DU since 2006 as "SteveM" and "SteveW," but a new computer and a new account gets me past go without collecting $200 or retaining 10,000+ posts! Been having trouble with the link, and don't know how it works. Thanks in advance.
