I think you are spot on on this

I think his methodology has uncovered some of the big flaws in the well know polls --Gallup---and he is recognizing real simple things like oversampling---my OP was just that the guy needs to stay employed---and it was a big risk to abandon NYT for a landscape that is not necessarily interested in politics---so he might have to take a different approach in the earlier months----keep everybody watching him----he already owns the left ----so a bit of pandering to the right might be good for business---I mean the guy is brilliant --AND he needs to survive

Is Nate Silver Fudging the poll? Maybe the Democrats are ahead?

Nate's recent prediction is that the GOP has a 60% chance of winning over control of the Senate. If he called the 2014 midterms for the Democrats right now he more than likely would tick off a lot of the Republicans and they would stop listening/viewing him. That translates into a lot of advertising dollars to his blog at ESPN. Let's face it, ESPN thought they had a gold mine when they scored a big coup against the "Gray Lady" New York Times when they stole him away. They also have invested heavily in his brand and are supporting a staff that is a "dream team" for Silver. Never in his wildest imagination did he ever think he would have the command post he occupies now. Since his move from the NYT to ESPN things might not be going as well as expected. Where is the evidence that mixing sports with politics has been a winning formula? It was a lot easier when his audience was generated from his NYT base because his viewers could just jump over to his blog. Now his loyal fan base has to make a special effort to go to his blog and, being politicos by nature, might not want to read all the sports and finance parts of the blog.. I know he cut his teeth predicting sports outcomes, but he became the media darling with his political forecasts. If he is not careful he just might be heading to an advertising/financial support issue. But if you were Nate Silver, and you are extremely adept at predictions, maybe you fluff the numbers a bit if it builds audience .So what do you do? Get the GOP to keep reading the site by making them look like a squeaker winner in the November election.

VWI----Boehner --is he voting while under the influence?

For those in the public eye, people like Boehner usually go into detox and treatment . One branch of government is extremely dysfunctional with this man at the helm. From what I know of alcoholism it is a progressive disease, and a mere "drying out" does not do anything to help the sick person. There has to me a 'spiritual awakening" and a psychic change. A person does not become alcoholic overnight, and a cure does not happen quickly. The answer to the problems in the House are that we have a very weak and sick person in charge. If he were driving a car he would have his license revoked. Instead he is driving our country into the ground. The House needs a good, strong leader. Even though Eric Cantor revolts me, he at least was sober. It is time for mr. Boehner to go to rehab. His preexisting condition is covered. If he is drunk at the wheel let's remove him for cause. If he is sober we have an even bigger problem.

OPEN CARRY at Hobby Lobby

no ---but maybe a few costume swords and pirate attire----

John Roberts----We thank you & SCOTUS---NO BUFFER ZONE AT HOBBY LOBBY

So , based on the SCOTUS ruling on buffer zones at Planned Parenthood clinics , opponents of the Hobby Lobby decision can get "up close and personal" to supporters of Hobby Lobby--i.e. their customers.

Here's Justice Roberts take on this ---"At each of the three Planned Parenthood clinics where petitioners attempt to counsel patients, the zones carve out a significant portion of the adjacent public sidewalks, pushing petitioners well back from the clinics’ entrances and driveways," concluded Roberts in his opinion. "The zones thereby compromise petitioners’ ability to initiate the close, personal conversations that they view as essential to 'sidewalk counseling.'"

SOOOOOOOOO----if we could get a few clips of those ardent protesters at Planned Parenthood we could use them as instruction video for any demonstration we would like to make at Hobby Lobby-----

Except-- that I think moderation is the key here ---to behave with decorum---but let them that we are keen observers of those at the clinics

Halloween Nightmare for Hobby Lobby--for 2 months before the Mid Term election

And what an opportunity SCOTUS has made for the opposition----we can use the months of September and October to protest at Hobby Lobby---substantially reducing their profits during one of their busiest seasons-and at the same time using the protests to GOTV. It won't take much, because business bottom line is thin, a reduction in gross of 10% could be enough to bring the Green's to give up and at the same time galvanize women to vote on November 4. I am a business person and it is beyond me how the owners of Hobby Lobby could pick a fight on women's issues when they are the majority of their customers.

Could this be the start of O'Reilly's Demise

Megyn Kelly beats Bill O'Reilly for the whole week

Source: Deadline Hollywood

It might be known as the week that saw an earthquake at Fox News Channel as Megyn Kelly beat the almost unbeatable Bill O’Reilly in the key news demo last week. Yes, the 9 PM The Kelly File has topped 8 PM’s The O’Reilly Factor on FNC before both on individual nights and even for a full week. However, those single nights were mainly around the time Kelly’s show debuted in early October last year and on Election Night 2013. The Kelly File beat The Factor during the week of May 5, but O’Reilly himself wasn’t hosting that week. Last week’s victory was the first host-to-host face-off where Kelly came out the winner. From June 2-June 6, Kelly File drew 413,000 adults 25-54. That’s a hair ahead of the 402,000 that O’Reilly pulled in among the demo, but in ratings as in horse races, a win is still a win. Both shows were up from the 344,000 and 370,000 among the 24-54s that they had the previous week, respectively. O’Reilly remained No. 1 with 2.528 million viewers overall compared to Kelly’s 2.434 million. Last week was Kelly’s second best week of the year among the demo so far. For the week of January 27, the host had 440,000 viewers on average among Adults 25-54. With Kelly at No. 1, O’Reilly at No. 2 and Hannity at No. 3 with 340,000 in the demo.

Before anyone thinks I am cheering for any part of Fox News please understand that I do not even have TV coming into my house, but that I do pay close attention to the ratings. When you see Bill O'Reilly take a back seat to Megyn Kelly it means that he has been outsmarted (which isn't that hard to do) but it usually doesn't happen by a fellow Fox newscaster, especially during the prime time. My own belief is that Megyn Kelly is a very shrewd journalist who has figured out how to get ahead in this particular misogynist network.

Megyn Kelly‘s interview with Dick Cheney propelled “The Kelly File” to be the #1 show in cable news among the A25-54 demographic Wednesday night. The program delivered 2,378,000 total viewers and 389,000 A25-54 viewers. My belief is that she blindsided both of the Cheneys with her questions about how Cheney was so wrong. That is not the de riguer of a Fox reporter.

Of course her other big coup was on election night when she commandeered the camera for 3 full minutes with a walk down to the Fox election center -
--she totally controlled the camera and had it focused on her while Karl Rove and Chris Wallace were left off camera and off mike for the entire time. She did this with the largest audience Fox had that year, and the ratings for that segment went through the roof.

I don't watch Megyn Kelly---Rachel Maddow is my favorite and I see her on a web podcast. But I do study all network and cable tv to try to gauge what is going on.

Flush Rush----and do the same with the Koch Brothers

the organization called Flush Rush has been able to deter over 3,000 advertisers from the Rush Limbaugh show------surely we can make a mark on the Koch Brothers------a boycott on Chick Fil A is hard to measure ---------but an outright boycott ----and constant vigilance on the Koch's will get them away from politics----they are more into greed than principle----and when they see that their profits are falling------trust me ---it won't take much-----these type of people have knee jerk reaction to market trend----and greed will drive them to play nice------let's hunt out their products and keep a tally-----it will show in midterms

About New Haven

A child of the 60's, a lifelong Democrat and a sense that our elected officials , especially the President, set the tone of civility in our great country. I worked on JFK's campaign and on Barack Obama's (twice). High School Class of 1963 I was moved by MLK's March on Washington, and to see that go full circle and have Barack Obama for President is quite gratifying. When I see remnants of the John Birch society still quite active in the Tea Party/MAGA it strengthens my beliefs and support of the Democratic Party.
