Last weekend, the Department of Homeland Security sent a cease-and-desist letter to the state of Texas regarding Republican’s latest border stunt. And Ken Paxton responded in true Ken Paxton fashion:
As I predicted earlier this week, Greg Abbott is not backing down and has no plans to. In fact, Abbott has stepped it up a notch.
Chris Olivarez, a lieutenant with the Department of Public Safety, posted on social media Wednesday evening that Texas DPS troopers are arresting refugees at the border and charging them with criminal trespassing.
This act is essentially Greg Abbott giving the middle finger to Joe Biden.

Joaquin Castro Calls On President Biden To Federalize The Texas National Guard

Thaw yet? As most of Texas’ attention has been on the weather and electric grid, the situation at the border between Greg Abbott and Joe Biden continues to unfold. In an unprecedented step, Abbott has instructed the Texas National Guard to block Federal Border Patrol agents from the border. The purpose is to stop Border Patrol from processing migrants seeking asylum. Over the weekend, a woman and two children drowned as the Texas National Guard allegedly blocked Border Patrol from saving them.
Right-wing media has latched on to the story, spinning it, claiming it didn’t happen or the migrants drowned on the Mexican side of the border. One outlet claimed the Border Patrol didn’t show up until after the migrants were already drowned. Surprising no one, Governor Abbott embraced these narratives because he can deflect blame again.
It’s a lie. Personnel on the ground confirmed Abbott was lying. The reporting from Texas Public Radio on the border, particularly from Pablo De La Rosa, has been accurate and verified by multiple major national networks. Some have already accused Abbott of brewing up another “Uvalde-like” coverup.

As reported by Texas Public Radio (TPR) today, “Three migrants drowned in the Rio Grande after Texas blocked Border Patrol from rescue.” The victims of this drowning were a woman and two children. TPR confirmed that “agents prevented the US Border Patrol from deploying lifesaving efforts with Operation Lone Star.”
This comes on the heels of Abbott’s latest political stunt. Early yesterday morning, Abbott signed an order for the Texas National Guard to seize Shelby Park and 2.5 miles along the border in Eagle Pass. The city of Eagle Pass did not authorize them to take the land, and the community members were furious. Only one day before that, Abbott said on the Dana Loesch Show that the only thing stopping Texas from shooting and murdering migrants at the border was legal ramifications from the Biden Administration.

For the last two decades, Texas has been safely Republican, so politically, it has been somewhat on the back burner compared to highly competitive states such as Wisconsin, North Carolina, Nevada…etc. However, this may be starting to change.

Tarrant County's White Supremacy Problem

When legislators consistently vote against measures designed to support and protect minority communities, such as the sickle cell disease awareness bill and the Crown Act, and instead actively support the ban on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices, they are not only ignoring the needs and rights of their increasingly diverse constituency but also perpetuating the very ideologies these extremist groups advocate for.
The direct correlation between the presence of these groups in Tarrant County and the legislative actions taken by these officials suggests a disturbing influence of white supremacist-aligned organizations on the legislative process. This influence has tangible, detrimental impacts on the lives of minority communities, shaping policies that further marginalize already vulnerable populations and entrench inequality.
This pattern of voting sends a clear message that these legislators are more interested in serving a narrow, extremist agenda than in meeting the needs of all their constituents, thereby undermining the principles of representation and equality that are supposed to underpin our democracy.
