Did some sleuthing into social security number fraud

Here are some interesting articles about how many people's social security numbers have been duplicated. Warning, you will not be happy with the findings. The first two articles are from 2010 when ID Analytics conducted a major investigation into social security numbers fraud. The last article is a follow up report from ID Analytics about the growth in a three year period in social security numbers fraud:

Odds someone else has your SSN? One in 7: http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/odds-someone-else-has-your-ssn-one-7-6C10406347

The IRS often knows when this happens, when the imposter pays taxes. The Social Security Administration knows, too, for the same reason. And the nation's credit bureaus usually know, because the imposter often ends up applying for some form of credit. Plenty of financial institutions also have access to this information.

But no one is telling you. In short, all these government agencies and financial firms don't think you have a right to know.

We're no closer to finding out who's on that list today, but at least we now know how big the problem is: much bigger than we originally estimated.

20 Million Americans Have Multiple Social Security Numbers Associated With Their Name: http://www.idanalytics.com/blog/press-releases/20-million-americans-multiple-social-security-numbers-associated-name/

SAN DIEGO, CA –More than 20 million Americans have multiple Social Security numbers (SSNs) associated with their name in commercial records according to a new study announced today from ID Analytics, Inc., a leader in consumer risk management. The study also found that rather than serving as a unique identifier, more than 40 million SSNs are associated with multiple people.

ID Analytics conducted the industry’s most comprehensive examination of SSNs using its ID Network®, the nation’s only real-time, cross-industry compilation of identity information. It examined more than 280 million SSNs to determine discrepancies.

“Our research shows that Social Security numbers, contrary to popular perception, do not uniquely identify an individual,” said Dr. Stephen Coggeshall, chief technology officer, ID Analytics. “Most of these cases of duplication are likely due to simple data entry errors as opposed to deliberate falsification. Nevertheless, organizations expose themselves and their customers to risk if they solely rely on the SSN to verify an individual.”

Synthetic Identity Fraud Rate Increases More Than 100 Percent Over Three Years: http://www.idanalytics.com/blog/press-releases/synthetic-identity-fraud-rate-increases-100-percent-three-years/

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – ID Analytics®, Inc., a leader in consumer risk management, today announced a new study from ID:A Labs that shows while the number of synthetic identities is decreasing, the average fraud rate for synthetic identities has increased more than 100 percent since 2010. The study described in ID Analytics’ white paper, “The Long Con: Analysis of Synthetic Identities”, examined new account applications in the financial services and wireless industries over a three-year period to determine the size of the synthetic identity pool and the risk level to companies.

The election integrity commission's requested data included the social security numbers of registered voters. Imagine what havoc they could create by cherry picking duplicated names associated with social security numbers. And you would never know until it came time for you to vote.

Yoyodyne Industries sends "Monkey Boy" tRump its Employee Voter Information (Satire)

Yoyodyne Industries, the Pentagon's largest contractor of bomber planes, has complied with president "Monkey Boy" tRump's Election Integrity Commission's request to supply it with all employee voter information. It also stated that none of its employees would be voting in next year's mid-term elections. When asked why, company spokesperson John Bigboote replied, "We are going home." When asked where "home" was, Bigbootie stated, "Planet 10." When asked when they were planning to leave, Bigboote affirmed, "Real soon." It should be noted that Yoyodyne Industries has been under investigation ever since company CEO and lead scientist, Emilio Lizardo (AKA John Whorfin) allegedly stole a secret "overthruster" mechanism from rival scientists at the Banzai Institute.

No, We are NOT Going to Blame Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeesus people, we just got finished raking Pelosi over the coals, and now we are starting in on Obama? Don't you get it? This is exactly the reaction the Orange Shitgibbon wanted when he let fly his idiotic tweet. Are you seriously going to let go of the best eight years of presidency because you suddenly side with tRump? Yeah, that's right; if you blame Obama in any way, then you have taken tRump's side. You have given him even more power.

DON'T LET THEM FRAME THE FUCKING NARRATIVE!!!!!!

My Apology for Pelosi Repeal and Replace

Although I never agreed that she should be replaced, I did have a few criticisms of her. No more. Nope, I'm not going to criticize when that gives ammunition to the enemy and causes division among Democrats. I'm not going to criticize any more when no one has put forth an alternative. Pelosi works. Sure, I can dislike some of what she says, but if criticism is going to lead to infighting and possibly a much worse minority leader, then I will keep my mouth shut. I'm sorry that I ever jumped on the negativity bandwagon because it is counter productive and exactly what the right wing wants.

2 Weeks Till 4th of July. What A Travesty!

I've been seeing the "erstwhile American" flags pop up in stores. I've been watching people lug in their new barbecues. I can't help but feel completely nauseated by it all. There is nothing to celebrate because all that we celebrated in the past has been sold to Russia and the GOP. There is nothing left to be proud of. The dream that was America is dead. All that remains is a Russian satellite state.

Tutored a Muslim Woman Last Week and Yesterday

Besides teaching English composition, I tutor. My college has one of (if not the) most diverse student populations in Colorado. It's not unusual to see Muslim women walking to class in their hijabs. However, the two tutoring sessions I had with this particular woman made me particularly happy with my college.

Last week, I met a new tutee. It was her first time attending at tutoring session, so she was a little nervous about what to expect. We sat down, and I asked her what her paper was about and how I could help. She explained that she was writing a classification essay about her identity and that she needed help organizing it. She showed me her notes that listed the three most important things she uses to identify herself: Djiboutian, Muslim, and a mother. I went over how she could organize each body paragraph with a topic sentence, explanation, and example. As we covered each of the three identities she wanted to discuss, I asked her to give me examples that would demonstrate how important each one was. She had no problem coming up with an example for how proud she was of being from Djibouti, but when it came to being Muslim she paused. I offered a suggestion. "Isn't it still Ramadan," I asked her. "What if you describe fasting every day as a way to show your devotion to your faith?" She liked that idea and jotted it down.

Yesterday she was back for another tutoring session! She had written her essay as best she could on her own, and she had included the suggestion about Ramadan that I gave her. She was very excited to have me read through her final draft. Of course there were a few issues here and there, but she had created a good paper overall.

It wasn't until last night that I started thinking about this woman with her paper. Here she was trying to communicate in writing in a foreign language. She came to me for help. There I was, some middle aged white guy who couldn't possibly understand her culture, her religion, her background. And yet she trusted me enough to let me give it a go. I think that my knowing about fasting during Ramadan helped allay some of her trepidation, but I just can't imagine what it must have been like bringing in an essay that could have exposed her to criticism or worse. I also think that the climate of tolerance and safety my college works so hard to maintain creates a space where such meetings can occur. And that was part of the realization I had later that evening: If I had met this same woman in a different part of the city, I doubt she would have been so open with me.

This Mayflower Business is Fishy

(Can we get those FBI recordings leaked?) I don't know about you, but now I am very interested to find out what Kislyak reported to Moscow after the speech. It is quite conceivable that Sessions did not say anything of importance to the Russian ambassador, and he was just there to lend support to tRump. But his testimony today was disingenuous to say the least. I know what we are all thinking about this, but I don't want it to be a nothing-burger.

Who Are You More Afraid Of RWNJs or Muslims?

There are heavily armed RWNJ militias marching in the streets of several major cities across the country right now. This sort of thing would never have happened under a normal administration. But the tRump administration has normalized hate and violence.
