Daily Distraction 30/06/2022

The rains have passed until this evening so I got to head out on my bike. I'm training to ride to Austria. From my house it is about 50ish miles. Here are some pictures taken on today's ride to Kloster Andechs. Like most, it is on a hill top. This splits the watersheds for the Starnbergersee and the Amersee. I would have stopped for a beer but I don't like beer. Ja, why am I in Germany you ask.... The prettiest bike in the known universe is in a couple of them.

And so it begins

Getting pickle relish here is Munich has been hit and miss. Avoided Amazon, but when my local store has some, 8-10 oz equivalent jar, it is about $5. Ouch. So the only solution is.... make my own. This is a combination of sweet and dill pickle relish.
takes about 2 liters of diced veggie mix. Longest part is the 2 hour wait for the salt pickle bath before draining and rinsing.

main ingredients. Only needed the large onion, and used dill seeds instead of leaves

Diced up, and ready for the salt bath.

In 2018 we took a trip to Brixen, Bressaone, in Tyrol Italy. It has 2 names because Italy got the are from the Austrians after WWI.

It is a very nice town and right above it is a Ski resort, Plose, turned year long playground for children and adults. Here are some pictures. Of things along the trails for children and adults to play on. Pre-covid when you checked into a hotel you got a transit pass that would let you ride the regional trains and the buses as well as the gondolas up the hill.

Spaghetti carbonara

I have been tinkering with this for the last year.
I haven't gotten to try it with the traditional guanciale. I've been using varieties of speck. This time I went with 4 whole eggs and 2 egg yolks. My wife said it was my best yet.
So simple to make.
