LAPD Chief Moore’s security detail under investigation after incident in France

Two members of Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore’s security detail are under investigation after detaining an individual in the streets of France during an overseas trip by LAPD commanders last month, police officials confirmed to The Times.

The group had traveled abroad to meet with French counterparts about security preparations for the Summer Olympics, which are planned in Paris and other French cities in 2024 and in L.A. in 2028. The detention occurred in Marseille after a high-ranking LAPD commander’s wife wrongly alleged her cellphone had been stolen by a man who bumped into her in the street, officials said.

The “unfortunate incident,” as police officials described it, led to the man and others he was with making complaints about their treatment, which were conveyed to local police, and to Moore issuing apologies to French and U.S. officials in the Mediterranean port city.

It has also prompted an internal LAPD investigation — initiated by Moore — that “will address the circumstances surrounding the incident” and the actions of the two detail officers, said Capt. Stacy Spell, an LAPD spokesman

Paris archbishop resigns over alleged relationship ...with a woman

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/paris-archbishop-resigns-over-alleged-relationship/vi-AARoUsB

France's Catholic Church said on Thursday the pope had accepted the resignation of Paris Archbishop Michel Aupetit, who asked for forgiveness after reports over a relationship with a woman.

--------------------

PARIS — Pope Francis on Thursday accepted the resignation of the archbishop of Paris, who unexpectedly offered to step down last week after admitting to an “ambiguous” relationship with a woman in 2012.

Paris Archbishop Michel Aupetit said in a statement Thursday that he offered to step down “to preserve the diocese from the division that suspicion and loss of trust are continuing to provoke.”

The Vatican said in a statement that the pope accepted Aupetit’s offer, and named Monsignor Georges Pontier to serve temporarily in his place pending the pontiff’s appointment of a permanent new archbishop.

The resignation comes amid great upheaval in the French Catholic Church. A report in October estimated some 3,000 French priests had committed sexual abuse over the past 70 years. And last year, the pope accepted the resignation of French Roman Catholic Cardinal Philippe Barbarin in connection with the coverup of sexual abuse of dozens of boys by a predatory priest.

A drama professor told students of color they got their feelings hurt too easily.

A drama professor told students they got their feelings hurt too easily. They decided to fight back

The politically conservative professor became the center of controversy after commenting that students of color got their feelings hurt too easily after a misunderstanding on campus in September.

CONWAY, S.C. — It all started with a misunderstanding.
A Black theater student at Coastal Carolina University told a visiting drama teacher she wanted to connect with nonwhite students, so the teacher drew up a list of names on a whiteboard, then forgot to erase it when they left the studio.

When several other students walked in, they saw the list and were left with the suspicion that those on it had been singled out with racist intent.

A committee of professors investigated and promptly sent out a departmentwide email clarifying what had happened that September day. Seeking to calm students, the professors wrote that the explanation “in no way undermines the feelings that any of you feel about the incident” and that the faculty was “deeply sorry.”

""""""""

Enter Steve Earnest.

“Sorry but I don’t think it’s a big deal,” the 62-year-old drama professor, who is white, wrote in a “reply all” email. “Im just sad people get their feelings hurt so easily. And they are going into Theatre?"

'You Don't Belong Here': Woman and Son Call Police on Black Employee in Viral Video

In the caption of the video, Martinez explained that on the evening of November 27 he was doing his job checking for car permits at the River House Apartments. He said a woman and her son confronted him and accused them of following him around earlier.

"While performing a routine parking permit audit on the premises for my employer the duo confronted me at a nearby elevator," the caption read. "The first words that came out of the Karen's mouth were 'you don't belong here, how did you get in here.'"

He explained that the video begins after the initial confrontation and that "the rest is Karen history."

Marcus Lamb, a Christian TV network founder and preacher who discouraged vaccinations, dies after being hospitalized for Covid-19

Prominent Christian televangelist and anti-vaccine advocate Marcus Lamb died after being hospitalized with Covid-19, his family announced Tuesday.

His wife Joni Lamb, announced the televangelist's death on Daystar's program streamed to Facebook Tuesday. She said her husband had diabetes but was healthy and was hospitalized after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

"He never talked about that, but he had diabetes, but he kept it in check. He was very healthy, he ate healthy, he kept his weight down, and always kept his sugar at a good level. But with trying to treat Covid and the pneumonia, the different protocols that are used, including many of the protocols we talked about here on Daystar, and we used those, and I used them and breezed through Covid.

------------

Marcus Lamb often spoke out against the Covid-19 vaccines on his show. In an episode earlier this year featuring anti-vaccine activists Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Del Bigtree, Lamb said the Covid-19 vaccine was "not really a vaccine," but an "an experimental shot" that was "dangerous. Marcus Lamb alleged that people were dying or having neurological disorders from the vaccine.

Tucson Moves to Fire Officer Seen Fatally Shooting Man in Wheelchair

The Tucson Police Department moved swiftly on Tuesday to fire a police officer after he fatally shot a man in a motorized wheelchair who was suspected of stealing a toolbox from a Walmart and flashing a knife when challenged.

Police bodycam video shows an officer pursuing the suspect and yelling, “Do not go into the store, sir,” as the man, identified as Richard Lee Richards, 61, continued to the entrance of a Lowe’s Home Improvement store on Monday night. The officer, Ryan Remington, fired nine shots and hit the man in the back and side, the police said, causing Mr. Richards to hunch over and fall in front of a display of pink and red flowers.

A store surveillance video shows Officer Remington placing handcuffs on a motionless Mr. Richards.

At a news conference on Tuesday, Police Chief Chris Magnus said he was “deeply disturbed and troubled” by Officer Remington’s actions.

“His use of deadly force in this incident is a clear violation of department policy and directly contradicts multiple aspects of our use of force and training,” Chief Magnus said. “As a result, the department moved earlier today to terminate Officer Remington.”
