California musician and his wife found dead in Mojave Desert on remote road

Please carry extra water in Mojave Desert. Stay on main roads.
https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/California-musician-and-his-wife-found-dead-in-17400191.php

A California musician and his wife were found dead on Aug. 21 in a car on a remote road in the Mojave Desert. The Kern County Sheriff's Office did not name the deceased, but KGET reported that the bodies belonged to Larry and Betty Petree.

The sheriff's office said it had received a report of two dead bodies in East Kern, and when deputies arrived on scene, they found 88-year-old Larry at the wheel in the drivers seat and Betty leaning against the rear tire.

The sheriff's office said homicide detectives were not called to the scene, as there is no reason to suspect criminal activity.

Larry played pedal steel guitar, and he was part of a sub-genre of country music called the Bakersfield sound, a raucous, guitar-driven blend of rockabiliy, honky-tonk, blues and Western swing. This style of music sprung up in Bakersfield in the 1950s, marking a push against the more polished, orchestral music coming out of Nashville. Buck Owens and Merle Haggard were both a part of the movement.

Republicans, once outraged by the Mar-a-Lago search, become quieter as details emerge.

https://dnyuz.com/2022/08/26/republicans-once-outraged-by-the-mar-a-lago-search-become-quieter-as-details-emerge/

Republicans, once outraged by the Mar-a-Lago search, become quieter as details emerge.

In the minutes and hours after the F.B.I.’s search of former President Donald J. Trump’s residence in Florida this month, his supporters did not hesitate to denounce what they saw as a blatant abuse of power and outrageous politicization of the Justice Department.

But with the release of a redacted affidavit detailing the justification for the search, the former president’s allies were largely silent, a potentially telling reaction with ramifications for his political future.

“I would just caution folks not to draw too many conclusions,” Gov. Glenn Youngkin of Virginia, a Republican, said on Fox News. It was a starkly different admonition from his earlier condemnations of what he said were “politically motivated actions.”

____

-'''''

All of this could mean that enough Republican voters grow weary of the division and drama around Mr. Trump and are ready to move on.

Little wonder, then, that Karl Rove, President George W. Bush’s adviser and deputy chief of staff, took to Fox News on Friday afternoon to plead for Mr. Trump to stop commenting on the F.B.I. investigation, for his own good and the good of his party.

Sore-loser Laura Loomer tells her MAGA base not to vote Republican. Great idea.

Sore-loser Laura Loomer tells her MAGA base not to vote Republican. Great idea.
Despite being as despicable as she is, in 2020 Loomer won the GOP nomination in another Florida congressional district.

Laura Loomer, the far-right extremist and proud bigot who failed to win the Republican nomination in a Florida congressional race Tuesday, is as vile as they come. But because Loomer is encouraging her supporters not to vote for the GOP nominee in the general election, she may just be the Democrats’ best weapon to win an otherwise safe GOP seat. Here’s hoping she inspires other MAGA losers to follow her lead.

______"

But Loomer — taking a page from her beloved former president — has refused to accept her loss. On election night she declared in Trumpian fashion, "I'm not conceding, because I'm a winner!" And as you may have guessed, she claimed there was voter fraud. Soon some of her followers online were repeating her fact-free fraud claims.

Loomer escalated her rhetoric Wednesday. On GETTR, one of few social media platforms that hasn’t kicked her off, she posted in all caps, “I DO NOT CONCEDE.”

She then made a request to her nearly 38,000 voters that should make Democratic nominee Shante Munns happy. “I encourage all of my supporters and all of my voters to NOT support Daniel Webster and the establishment RNC and Big Tech voter fraud machine that is propping his feeble body up and depriving my constituents of the representation they deserve and need,” Loomer wrote. She then added for bad measure: “I am calling for Daniel Webster to RESIGN, because everyone knows he is beyond unfit to serve.”

In new poll, Karen Bass jumps out to big lead over Rick Caruso in race for L.A. mayor

She would be LA's first woman mayor... LA has had a black mayor before

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-08-26/california-election-2022-bass-leads-caruso-poll

Rep. Karen Bass has built a double-digit lead in the Los Angeles mayor’s race with a little over two months to go until election day, firming up her base among the city’s Democratic voters and eroding Rick Caruso’s margin in the San Fernando Valley, a new poll shows.

Since beating Caruso in the June primary by 7 points, Bass has widened her advantage over the businessman to 43%-31%, with 24% undecided, according to a new UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental studies poll, co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times.

Bass has consolidated support among liberal and Democratic voters, picking up the lion’s share of those who went for other candidates in the primary. She leads Caruso by nearly 2 to 1 among former supporters of Councilmember Kevin de León, who came in third in the primary, and wins overwhelmingly among backers of Gina Viola, the progressive activist who came in fourth

_____

These numbers raise the question of whether the billionaire mall developer, who bombarded Los Angeles’ airwaves with millions of dollars of advertising during the primary, can claw back into contention and make the race more competitive as the runoff between the two moves into its final phase.

Avg new vehicle price 46K, Avg new car loan 40K. Avg car payment $667 avg used car 28K

Gas gets more attention, but the price of new vehicles has skyrocketed, too—hitting a record average of $46,259 this month. That's led to another record: The average new vehicle loan in the US reached $40,290 in the second quarter, Experian reported Thursday.

The company calculated that the average amount borrowed climbed 13.2%, and that the average monthly payment was $667, up nearly 15% from the year before, per Reuters. The length of a loan, 69 months or so, has held steady.

The used car market is growing, but there's not much relief to be found there. Loans on used vehicles rose 18.7% in the second quarter, to an average of $28,534 and a monthly payment of $515. That payment is up 17% from the year before. The share of vehicle loans going toward used vehicles was 61.8%, an increase from 58.5%.

People living in western states fraudently try to get payouts from Champlain Towers collapse

Judge Finds 457 Claims in Condo Collapse to Be Bogus

During a brief hearing Wednesday, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Michael Hanzman said none of the bogus claimants showed up to provide evidence under oath, so their claims will be struck from the list of settlement beneficiaries. "They had to submit the necessary documentation, and they had to show up at the hearing," the judge said. The 457 false claims—out of 741 total—arrived mostly from Western states, especially California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado, Goldberg said. They seem to be affiliated with a website that he said shows people how to file for damages in certain class-action settlements without providing proof.

The shaky claims from people insisting they were at the Surfside building and injured when it fell or owned units that suffered costly property losses were easily disproved with government records, first responder accounts, and court documents, Goldberg said. The apparent scammers could have been subjected to perjury charges,

Republicans attacking student loan relief as taxpayer burden got their own degrees on taxpayers' dim

Republicans attacking student loan relief as a taxpayer burden got their own degrees on taxpayers’ dime

We can say so because some of the loudest voices attacking the proposal are those of GOP senators and representatives who got their own university degrees courtesy of huge subsidies from taxpayers.

‘A slap in the face to working Americans.’

— Description of Biden’s student debt relief by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), graduate of two public universities in his home state.

They’re graduates of public state universities, generally in the era when in-state tuition at those institutions was far, far lower than it is today, even accounting for inflation. Who picked up the tab back then? Taxpayers, that’s who.

Put it all together, and one can see that the Republican chorus against student loan relief ranks as one of the most stupendous outpourings of sanctimonious, hypocritical claptrap in recent memory.
