Denise McAllister, conservative writer, loses job

A conservative writer attacked a gay journalist on Twitter. This outlet just dropped her.

Denise McAllister’s name ricocheted around the Internet last week thanks to a viral dispute with Meghan McCain, co-host of ABC’s “The View.” Now, the publisher of a conservative outlet says McAllister will no longer write for it after she sent a barrage of homophobic tweets aimed at a gay journalist on Saturday.

---

Soon after the news broke, McAllister went on the offensive. “I was fired when I criticized a gay man who mocked my heterosexual relationship,” she tweeted. “Yet no one defended me when I stood for masculinity and God’s design for sexuality despite outlets saying they represent Judeo-Christian values about sexuality, identity and purpose. What is truth?”

A mentally ill man made noise in his cell.

Four police officers then stormed his cell, bashed him into a wall, punched him multiple times *in the face*, and pummeled him into the ground.

This. Is. Why. People. Kneel.

NY state agency snatching tax refunds for mysterious debts without proof or due process

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/new-yorkers-say-state-agency-snatched-their-tax-refunds/

David Evans, a 59-year-old New Yorker, was making a modest living working as a messenger and enjoying a state tax refund of $150 or $200. But in the last four years, his refund hasn't been coming through, Evans told CBS News.

Two years ago, he figured out where the money went. It was being sent to the New York City transit authority (NYCTA), which operates the city's subways and buses. After some digging, Evans found that there was an outstanding judgment against him for a debt totaling $1,900. Where did that debt originate? Ten tickets issued between 1999 and 2005.

"At the beginning I was baffled. Could this be me? Is this not me? Then I saw the numbers," Evans said.

In New York, you can get ticketed for entering the subway without paying, smoking on the platform or putting your feet up on a seat. But Evans doesn't remember getting the tickets, nor what they are for, he told CBS News.

Evans said he paid multiple visits to the NYCTA's enforcement office but he's never seen the tickets. When he asked to see the documentation against him that led to the judgments, Evans said, he was told these documents might not exist and that he would have to pay to see them—an amount upward of $400, according to a lawsuit Evans and another New York resident filed against the NYCTA.

"At no point have I ever seen the summons with my name on it, my signature, a date saying this and that happened. I've never seen anything. They say I have a ticket from a crossing guard, but I've never seen one," said Evans, who now lives on disability payments since ending his job last year.

The lawsuit, which is seeking class-action status, accuses the transit authority of bilking money from low-income New Yorkers without due process. In this case, due process would include seeing evidence about their supposed violations.

Trump aides fear 'tired' president is wearing down and may not have the energy for 2020 campaign

Then there is the matter of Trump’s age and his refusal, as of late, to schedule multiple rallies — including ones that involve substantial travel

“After two years in office, Mr. Trump, 72, is tired, aides said. The unstoppable campaigner, so far, will commit to participating in only one campaign event a day, and recently balked at a possible rally out West during a fund-raising swing,” the report claims. “The rally may still happen, people familiar with the plans said, but only because campaign officials insisted on it.”

man fatally shot a teenager who accidentally knocked on the wrong apartment door in Atlanta

https://www.sfgate.com/news/crime/article/Georgia-teen-killed-after-knocking-on-wrong-door-13729060.php

A man fatally shot a teenager who accidentally knocked on the wrong apartment door in Atlanta, a television station reported.

It happened about 12:30 a.m. Friday at The Retreat apartment complex in southwest Atlanta, according to WSB-TV .

Omarian Banks, 19, was dropped off by a Lyft near the wrong breezeway in the complex, the television station quoted police as saying. Banks and his girlfriend had just moved to the complex and Banks wasn't familiar with the area, police said. Banks was using FaceTime to talk with his girlfriend when he knocked on the door he thought was his. Shortly after, he walked away.

The man inside, Darryl Bynes, 32, grabbed a gun and went onto his balcony to confront Banks, police said. They said after a short conversation, Bynes shot him. Police said Bynes told them he shot Banks in self-defense.

------

Bynes is charged with murder. The TV station didn't say if he has an attorney.

Makayla Johnson, who identified herself as Bynes' cousin, told WSB the charge was unfair.

"He is an innocent father," Johnson said. "He has five kids. ... His truck was stolen earlier this week. Right now, he's just trying to protect his family.

Lil Nas X is kicked off country chart, leading some to blame racism

https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/29/entertainment/lil-nas-x-country/index.html

It's not even two minutes long, but some are spending plenty of time debating a song about a horse by an up-and-coming rapper.

Atlanta's Lil Nas X has had a viral hit with the song "Old Town Road," which Billboard has reportedly pulled from its country music charts.

The song found love on the TikTok app, where users create and share video clips set to music.

It quickly raced up the Apple Music and Spotify charts and debuted simultaneously on Billboard's cross-genre Hot 100, Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.

But according to Rolling Stone magazine, Billboard pulled it from the country charts.
"Upon further review, it was determined that 'Old Town Road' by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard's country charts," Billboard said in a statement to Rolling Stone.

"When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While 'Old Town Road' incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today's country music to chart in its current version."

Some supporters are seeing both red -- and black -- with that decision, accusing Billboard of racism.
