So, he owns the only carpet in town.

One day, if he wants or must, he can sell it — in whole or in parts. By then, it’s likely he will have cornered all of the liquid capital on the planet and the rights to nearby mineable asteroids, so he can pay himself in cash or bitcoin.

Democrats should sweep House, Senate, state and local races.

The 2022 mid-term election shouldn’t be close. The choice is clear:

Democrats believe all are equal under law and try to build a nation that lives up to its founding principles.

Republicans believe all should get in line and follow their leader — a disgusting, no-class fraud who betrayed the United States “to make a buck” by sharing or losing Top Secret National Defense Information and who knows what else to its sworn enemy.

Trump winking at Putin.

What kind of President does that?

A traitor.

Great Moments in Hypocrisy

Tuberville: US has too many ‘takers’ who don’t want to work

Associated Press, October 26, 2022

MONTGOMERY, Ala (AP) — U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville said this week that the country has too many “takers” instead of workers and suggested that many in younger generations — including people in their 40s — don’t understand they need to work.

Tuberville, 68, made the remarks while discussing the national worker shortage during a speech to business groups in south Alabama.

“What’s happening in our country right now, we’re getting too many takers in our country,” Tuberville said Tuesday, according to Al.com. Later, he added, “They don’t want to go to work. We’ve got to get Generation X and these Millennials to understand that you have to tote your own load.”

Interesting.

Despite Tuberville quitting, Auburn will pay buyout

Associated Press, December 11, 2008

When Tommy Tuberville resigned, Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs agreed to pay the $5.08 million buyout even though the football coach quit.

In the two-paragraph resignation letter dated Dec. 3, Tuberville wrote:

"This letter will confirm our recent conversations about my status as Head Football Coach. After long consideration, I have decided to resign. I understand that, notwithstanding my resignation, the University will make a total payment of $5,083,334 as outlined in Section 21 of my contract. I also understand that the structure and timing of the payments may be modified by mutual agreement.

I deeply appreciate the opportunity to serve as Head Coach at Auburn and will continue to support Auburn's Athletic Program in any way I can."

Jacobs wrote a one-word response: "Agreed."

Attack Ads Are Darkening the Skin Tone of Black Candidates

While those responsible claim innocent technical problems, the larger pattern is consistent.

So is the effect: heightened white racial anxieties.

It’s working. Once ahead in the polls, Democrat Mandela Barnes, the lieutenant governor of Wisconsin, is now trailing Republican incumbent Ron Johnson in the state’s race for U.S. Senate, a shift also seen recently in other important races. One factor is an onslaught of negative messaging that seeks to paint Barnes as a crime-loving radical. A key word here is “paint.”

One of the ads, from the National Republican Senate Committee, ends with a shot that brands Barnes, who is black, as “different” and “dangerous” as it pictures him alongside three congresswomen of color who are members of “The Squad,” none of whom has campaigned with him. For good measure, the state Republican party sent out a mailer in which the color of Barnes’s skin has clearly been darkened. Here’s a side-by-side comparison that appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

A similar alteration recently happened with Stacey Abrams, who is facing off against Georgia’s Republican governor, Brian Kemp. His campaign team took an image of Abrams from an ad that she had run and made her complexion noticeably darker. Here’s a screenshot of a side-by-side that ran on WXIA-TV in Atlanta:

China blocks New York Times Web site after report on leader’s wealth

By William Wan
The Washington Post, October 26, 2012

BEIJING — An explosive story about the massive wealth accumulated by the family of Prime Minister Wen Jiabao prompted the Chinese government to block the Web site of the New York Times early Friday morning, just days before a sensitive, once-in-a-
decade transition of power from Wen and others to a new generation of leaders.

The article says that assets controlled by Wen’s family are worth at least $2.7 billion, a shocking figure even in a country where government corruption is rampant and popular resentment against the elite has increased in recent years. The scandal also complicates the apparent intention of Chinese leaders to tackle corruption as a main issue at the Nov. 8 party congress, a move they have been signaling in the wake of other scandals that have dramatically shaken the party’s core leadership.

This month, the party took the rare step of accusing another prominent leader, Bo Xilai, of alleged massive corruption and wealth, but only as it began the process of purging him. He had a central role in China’s biggest political scandal in the past two decades, which involved the murder of a British businessman.

Snip…

In June, Bloomberg News reported that the extended family of Vice President Xi Jinping, who is poised to take over as president, had amassed $376 million. Government officials, apparently spooked, took the unusual step of not just censoring online discussion of the story but shutting down Chinese access to the Bloomberg site entirely.

The blocking of the New York Times Web site sets back an effort by the company to attract Chinese readers and advertising. This summer, it launched a new Chinese-language Web site, which had the potential of drawing especially on China’s booming luxury industry for revenue. According to Nieman Journalism Lab, the Times made a hefty investment in launching the Chinese edition, hiring hired 30 to 35 new journalists, translators and technologists.

About the US Judge Donnie Dipwad called, "a partisan hack."

The guy put down his surfboard and enlisted in the US Marine Corps, volunteering to serve in Vietnam; Federal District Judge David O. Carter was appointed to the bench by President Bill Clinton in 1998.

U.S. District Judge David O. Carter hosts his annual celebration of the Marine Corps’ birthday outside the federal courthouse in Santa Ana, California, on Nov. 10, 2020.

“When others see the fairness, equality, and ideals of America’s justice system, it speaks volumes. Our strength is in our Constitution. It’s how we beat back barbarism… It’s our obligation to help the world have more fairness and equality in their judicial systems. As a people, we can’t save the world today. But what counts is that we keep trying. Never give up the good fight.”

GQP HISTORY -- North Carolina beware! Trumpie Budd Is a Fraud Artist!!!!

Trump’s pick in a key Senate race touts his agriculture ties.

He doesn’t mention his role in a bankruptcy that cost farmers millions.

By Michael Kranish
The Washington Post, Aug. 31, 2021

Excerpt…

But as Budd has told his narrative in a state where agriculture is the largest business, he omitted a key chapter. He made no mention of his role in his family’s calamitous involvement in a company called AgriBioTech, which ended in a bankruptcy case that cost farmers millions of dollars in losses.

Court documents reviewed by The Washington Post show that a trustee for farmers and other creditors alleged that his father, Richard Budd, improperly transferred millions of dollars in assets to his family, including Ted Budd. That occurred before Richard Budd and a family company faced a $15 million judgment in the case.

Moreover, the trustee alleged, Ted Budd “acted in concert” with his father “in connection with the fraudulent transfers.” As a result, Ted Budd was named as a defendant in a civil case filed by the trustee.

In the end, a settlement negated the need for a trial and specified that there was no admission of wrongdoing. The “Budd entities” agreed to pay less than half of the amount initially earmarked for the farmers and other creditors — some of whom remain angry they only received a portion of their lost earnings.

Seems to me that this “old story” needs more attention in this year’s North Carolina US Senate race. Our candidate is Cheri Beasley, a former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Alex Carey: Corporations and Propaganda

The Attack on Democracy

The 20th century, said Carey, is marked by three historic developments: the growth of democracy via the expansion of the franchise, the growth of corporations, and the growth of propaganda to protect corporations from democracy. Carey wrote that the people of the US have been subjected to an unparalleled, expensive, 3/4 century long propaganda effort designed to expand corporate rights by undermining democracy and destroying the unions. And, in his manuscript, unpublished during his life time, he described that history, going back to World War I and ending with the Reagan era. Carey covers the little known role of the US Chamber of Commerce in the McCarthy witch hunts of post WWII and shows how the continued campaign against "Big Government" plays an important role in bringing Reagan to power.

John Pilger called Carey "a second Orwell", Noam Chomsky dedicated his book, Manufacturing Consent, to him. And even though TUC Radio runs our documentary based on Carey's manuscript at least every two years and draws a huge response each time, Alex Carey is still unknown.

Given today's spotlight on corporations that may change. It is not only the Occupy movement that inspired me to present this program again at this time. By an amazing historic coincidence Bill Moyers and Charlie Cray of Greenpeace have just added the missing chapter to Carey's analysis. Carey's manuscript ends in 1988 when he committed suicide. Moyers and Cray begin with 1971 and bring the corporate propaganda project up to date.

This is a fairly complex production with many voices, historic sound clips, and source material. The program has been used by writers and students of history and propaganda. Alex Carey: Taking the Risk out of Democracy, Corporate Propaganda VS Freedom and Liberty with a foreword by Noam Chomsky was published by the University of Illinois Press in 1995.

Keeping our Democracy is THE issue.

Failing to emphasize it — and the GOP’s role in the January 6 insurrection — is political malpractice.
