Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics recently released its Spring 2024 poll of young voters 18 to 29 years old and offered some surprising findings regarding the 2024 election and how young people view the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Of the 2,010 young Americans polled, 5-to-1 (51% support, 10% oppose) favor a permanent ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict, while “majorities of young Americans sympathize with the Israeli and the Palestinian people.” However, attention paid to the conflict did not seem to mirror the strong sentiments seen on U.S. campuses across the country, which have been heavily covered in the media. The poll’s summary noted:
While only 38% of young Americans tell us that they are following the news about the war between Israel and Hamas very or somewhat closely, the proportion rises among registered voters (45%) and those most likely to vote in November (52%). Overall, we find that Democrats (49%) are more likely to follow this news closely compared to Republicans (32%), and those with a college degree (50%) are more likely to be following these events compared to current college students (39%) and those that never attended (32%).
The poll, which was conducted between March 14th and the 21st, also asked respondents to rate issues based on importance relative to other issues. Of the 16 issues polled, “Israel/Palestine” ranked as the 15th most important compared to the others – only viewed as more important than student debt.

'I'm turning on this one': Bill Maher reveals he thinks Trump could lose hush money case
Bill Maher has previously criticized the hush money cover-up case against Donald Trump, but he said on Friday night that he now believes Trump could lose at trial.
Maher, who recently interviewed conservative pundit Piers Morgan about Trump, told former CNN host Don Lemon that he has "always been against" the criminal case accusing Trump of hiding payments to an adult film star for the purposes of affecting the 2016 election. "Because I thought, of all the ones you are bringing, this is going the least serious," Maher said, adding that he went as far as to write editorials about it. "Now I think Trump could lose. I'm turning on this one, because it's not what I thought it was gonna be."
Lemon responded that this one "could take him down," and noted that the ex-president "looks small." "He looks diminished," Lemon said of Trump at trial. "If this goes that way and Trump loses, it's going to change the whole election," he said. "A significant number of independents and Republicans say their vote will change if he's a convicted criminal, and he'll look like a loser, not that he doesn't already."
"And Alvin Bragg is gonna be the rising star of the Democratic party, because everyone said not a good idea, including me," Maher said.

Jamie Raskin: Move Supreme Court Over To RNC Headquarters
Jamie Raskin hilariously suggested that the RNC headquarters could host the Supreme Court after wingnut justices appeared open to recognizing some form of presidential immunity yesterday. Via HuffPost:
Host Joy Reid, who noted that Trump’s federal election interference case could be remanded back to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals and thus further delay the trial past Election Day, called the Supreme Court majority “so clearly politicians” before looping in Raskin.
“Well, they’re politicians who are not even subject to popular election unlike me. They should move the Supreme Court over to the RNC headquarters because they’re acting like a bunch of partisan operatives,” Raskin said.
He went on to refer to a question from Justice Samuel Alito, who suggested democracy could be at risk if a president could be criminally prosecuted by a political opponent after leaving office. Raskin called that the “most astonishing” observation from the hearing and the question buys into Trump’s “narcissistic, criminal world view.”

Biden joins Howard Stern for live interview
President Biden joined radio host Howard Stern for a live interview Friday, sitting down with the broadcaster at his New York City studio. The interview caught many by surprise because it was not listed on Biden’s public schedule. He spent Thursday night in New York City after attending a fundraiser hosted by actor Michael Douglas in Westchester County.
Stern asked Biden questions centered on his life, including meeting his first wife, playing football and stories about his stutter growing up. He also spoke of his time in law school, in which he called himself a “jerk” for not taking the schooling seriously, including ditching textbooks. Biden is also recounting the loss of his first wife, as well as meeting first lady Jill Biden. Stern has repeatedly praised Biden’s family, calling them “amazing,” when speaking about how Biden’s family members stepped in following his first wife’s death.
Stern reportedly sought an interview with Biden during the 2020 campaign, but it never came together. Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton sat down with Stern in 2019 for an interview.
Stern had in the past been friendly with former President Trump but since has become an outspoken critic of the former president.

Even More People Were in on Trump's Hush-Money Scheme Than We Knew
Donald Trump’s old friend David Pecker is still dishing the dirt on the stand in the real estate mogul’s New York hush money trial, revealing on Thursday that the decision to catch and kill former Playboy model Karen McDougal’s story about having a lurid affair with Trump was later re-approved by top members of his presidential administration.
Pecker, the former publisher of the National Enquirer and former CEO of its parent company, American Media Inc., told the court that he had a joint call with Trump’s White House Communications Director Hope Hicks and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders about McDougal’s story well after Trump had been elected.
The salacious tabloid executive claimed he had spoken with both taxpayer-funded officials about whether McDougal’s contract should be extended. “Both of them said that they thought it was a good idea,” Pecker told the court.
Hicks, Cohen, and porn star Stormy Daniels are also expected to testify in the trial against the GOP presidential nominee. Trump is accused of using Cohen to sweep an affair with Daniels under the rug ahead of the 2016 presidential election. He faces 34 felony charges in this case for allegedly falsifying business records with the intent to further an underlying crime. Trump has pleaded not guilty on all counts.

Biden Campaign Trolls Donald Trump With Stark Contrast Of What He Says... And What He Does
President Joe Biden’s campaign on Thursday picked up on the latest discrepancy from former President Donald Trump. Presumptive GOP nominee Trump has repeatedly complained that having to attend his hush money trial is preventing him from campaigning.
“This is what took me off and takes me off the campaign trail because I should be in Georgia now, I should be in Florida now, I should be in a lot of different places right now campaigning and I’m sitting here and this will go on for a long time, it’s very unfair,” the four-times-indicted ex-POTUS said outside the courthouse hosting the trial earlier this week.
Biden’s team posted footage of Trump’s comments on X, formerly Twitter. And alongside it shared CNN anchor Kristen Holmes’ post which read: “Trump spent Wednesday playing golf at his Bedminster club, sources told CNN.”
“Wednesday’s the only weekday court isn’t in for his NY criminal trial. Trump has lamented that trial has kept him off campaign trail,” Holmes added.

The Trump legal team has consistently demonstrated that they have no credible legal point to be made on this issue. The argument itself shows why it was a waste of critical and precious time for the Supreme Court to ever agree to hear this case. Trump is not making argument to protect a president. He is arguing that the president is a dictator that can do what he/she pleases, and is only bound by the remedy of impeachment and conviction. The Trump argument is that the law does not apply to presidents.
It is perhaps the most anti-democracy argument ever made before the Supreme Court, and even this conservative majority isn’t buying it. President Biden is literally rebuilding America, while prosecutors are building a case that could convict Donald Trump.

Pecker at hush money trial says Trump feared trysts would hurt image, but didn't mention Melania
Donald Trump never mentioned worrying about his wife getting wind of his alleged trysts with porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal — only his future in politics, a Manhattan jury heard Thursday during explosive testimony at the former president’s hush money trial.
During his third day on the witness stand, the former CEO of American Media, David Pecker, said the “catch-and-kill” scheme he helped carry out for Trump had one goal: to help win him the White House.
Pecker described a high-stakes scramble to silence women who claimed Trump cheated on his wife with them in the lead-up to the election and being showered with gratitude from the then-president after it appeared to succeed. The hush-money scheme was part of a broader effort to use stories in The National Enquirer and other AMI publications to advance Trump’s political brand, prosecutors allege.
Pecker answered with a simple “no” when Assistant District Attorney Joshua Steinglass asked him if the defendant ever expressed concern about what Melania Trump would think of his affairs.

'Missing in action': Analyst sees Trump's 'family man' defense killed by Melania's absence
The failure of Melania Trump to make an appearance at the Manhattan courtroom where her husband Donald is facing 34 felony counts related to paying off an adult film star is hurting his defense in multiple ways. That's a claim made by analyst Amanda Marcotte in her column for Salon, where she said that the former first lady's absence is likely crippling a line of defense his lawyers would like to use to gain some sympathy from jurors.
As Marcotte noted, Trump's defense attorney Todd Blanche attempted to paint his client as an average married man no different than any other who was concerned about how revelations about his alleged affair would impact his family.
That, she claimed, fell flat when the former president's wife could not, or would not, show up in court as a sign of solidarity with her husband for the jury to see. As she noted, that was the least of his problems as the jury is being presented with Trump as an average "family man."
"It's not just the failed fashion model-turned-Mrs. Trump #3 who hasn't shown up in support. None of Trump's five children, or their spouses, have stood by his side in court, either. His two adult sons would rather spend time screening hypothetical future political appointments for 'loyalty' than bother to show their father any in-person care at court. Melania Trump Reportedly 'Deeply Upset' by Karen McDougal's Affair With Donald, 'It's Humiliating for Her!'
As Donald Trump’s hush money trial continues, his wife, Melania Trump, is likely trying to tune out all the noise that comes with it as he’s been accused of having an affair with Stormy Daniels and ex-Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal while he was married to her. And newly married as well, since the two were married in 2005 and Donald was off banging other chicks the same year and into 2006 as well. On Tuesday, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins spoke about former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker and how he allegedly hid the ex-president’s affairs while at the magazine.
“And obviously this is going to be a really sensitive moment in this trial, which is how personal this will be for Donald Trump. Karen McDougal is one of the most personal parts of this because she alleged not only that they had an affair, she said they had a relationship,” Collins claimed. “And this was something that when, I know from covering the White House and covering Melania Trump, it was deeply upsetting for the first, the former first lady, Melania Trump, and it created a rift in the relationship between her and Donald Trump. Everyone talks about Stormy Daniels and yes, that certainly was there as well. But Karen McDougal, we were told at the time, agitated Melania Trump more so, actually, than Stormy Daniels had.”
Paula Reid also chimed in, noting that Trump and Daniels’ alleged relationship appeared to be “transactional,” and the adult film star was only talking to him because she wanted to be on The Apprentice. “And once it’s clear that wasn’t going to happen, she sort of dropped him,” Reid stated. “The Karen McDougal — as she tells the story, it was, you know, from her viewpoint, a romantic relationship that went on for some time, traveling together. It was much more of an intimate relationship, again, according to her account of events. So, it’s completely understanding why that would be frustrating and annoying to Melania and something that Trump would not want out in the public.”
According to Pecker, ex-editor-in-chief of the National Enquirer Dylan Howard called him in June 2016 about a Playboy model trying to sell the story about the relationship she had with Trump for a year.
