6. Amtrak's great. Way more fun than flying.

We had an opportunity to travel the Starlight Coastal Express a number of years ago, and I imagine the service and the amenities were what air travel aspired to a few decades ago. But to be able to saunter around with a glass of wine, get to know fellow passengers over a restaurant dinner, and marvel at the scenery from the observation car -- all while someone else does the driving -- THAT was luxury!
