I met and shook the hand of Barack Obama in 2004 in Urbana, IL when he was running for the Senate.
Strong, compassionate, and personable--I had a feeling then he'd make a great POTUS. He is only human, and not perfect. But for me and my LGBTQ community he will always be a hero.
He and Michelle and his whole family made me proud. I truly wish I could feel that way again.
