Conservatives tend to have a more activated amygdala. This means that they are more likely to be hyper-vigilant to things that cause fear. Everyone discriminates. It is a natural, evolutionary process that allowed the human species to survive predators and environmental dangers. As we have developed culture and society, there has been more and more knowledge and information that has pushed us to understand and embrace cultural differences. Those of us who tend toward liberalism have a tendency to adapt to those changes more readily.
Conservatives tend toward order, authority, and strict structures. All of this is meant to help them abate their anxiety and fear. This is why many conservatives are anti-intellectualism as well. Education expands and creates more complexity. To a person who is already fearful of change, requiring security, and searching for protection, rejecting the expansion of ideas is critical.
Emotions interfere with logical processing, Especially fear and anger. These people are so aroused emotionally that they are literally incapable of forming coherent rational thoughts. They are operating on emotion.
