Clearly in certain regions of the country it is highly effective. That it fails nationally is not really a concern for someone running for governor or the senate. Since it is highly effective locally it will work also in the primaries which are just a series of fractional elections. Thus even on the national stage the party won't be able to escape it. The only way would be to bring minorities into the party. To bring minorities into the party however generally means you have to like them. Which is a problem if disliking them is your political election strategy...
