42. You've already lost the argument by accepting a falsehood

The is no Western European government that is socialist.

The people you are arguing with are correct. Socialist governments where the government controls the means of production(business and industry) have never worked.

But Social Democracy, which uses tightly regulated capitalism to insure that those with little or no capital benefit from the wealth generated by capitalism flourish. Or at least do better than unregulated capitalism like we have here.

I always either win or shut down the argument by stating 2 things. First, ask them what is socialism. They never know.

Then tell the that only capitalism generates real wealth, but if not controlled only the people with money have any. The minute they hear someone who they know is a liberal Democrat defending any type of capitalism their mind goes blank.
