6. I bought my dad one of those hats when I visited China in the 1990s

Near the entrance to the Forbidden City which was overrun with tourists they had lots of kiosks of vendors selling souvenirs. One of their most popular items was the Mao worker hat, that would sell like cowboy hats sell in the U.S. when you visit touristy places out west.
