I admit, I had nearly lost faith in democracy after 2016.
Fast-forward to 2020 and Biden gave me hope. He's just so darn likeable that I felt like America couldn't possibly fuck this up again and re-elect Agent Orange. Still, Nov 3rd kinda felt like a partial loss in the days after. Dems seemed to under-perform. It felt like another gut punch.
But in those days after Nov 3rd, something mysteriously cool was brewing. Biden was starting to pull ahead of Trump in Georgia.
I though to myself, how is it possible that Ga is suddenly bluer than purple Florida? What happened in Ga that flipped it from its quite red past into a new Dem state?(still purple but winnable purple)
Still, I thought, how did Ga do it? I turned to DU and found the answer.
Stacey Abrams. (and the thousands of others who encouraged GOTV efforts)
Stacey Abrams' poise shows her leadership capabilities. She is a rising star in Democratic Party politics. Her leadership ability has proven to thrust her into future presidential aspirations. She would be a wonderful Dem President someday.
She didn't get depressed about 2016 like I did. Instead, she channeled her energy into a massive GOTV effort and wow, did it pay off. She helped the effort to make Mitch Mcconnell senate MINORITY leader and succeeded. That's leadership.
Florida and Texas could learn a lot from her leadership. So could many other swing states. Abrams plotted the course to victory that other swing states need to follow.
She inspired me to the point that my faith in democracy will never waiver again. EVER.
GOTV works. It will be my focus for the rest of my life.
No more getting depressed. No more sitting on my hands.
Let's roll up our sleaves and get to work on 2022 midterms. Abrams style.
