While under British control, India had two time zones. After independence, they decided to split the difference which put the whole country on the same time. (GMT +5:30) Nepal is even stranger. (GMT + 5:45)

Interesting. I only have to do the clock on the oven and in my car--The former I rarely even look at

Even keeping standard time I suspect some businesses will switch to "summer schedule" hours
