It WAS that bad, and worse. It was insurrection, a coup attempt. They had wrist ties to take captives and execute them. Only the actions of some very quick thinking and moving security people inside the building prevented the taking of captives and slaughter that could have occurred.
Those representstives and their staff who could not get out soon enough had to hide silently behind barricaded doors to save their own lives.
There is no reason to downplay the horrors of that day. There are members of Congress and their staff who have PTSD as a result.
