In reply to the discussion: Joe Manchin goes down in flames when confronted with McConnell's pledge to totally obstruct Biden [View all]Celerity
(51,511 posts)they do wander far down that path (ie blocking all non reconciliation-eligible parts, massive parts, of Biden and the rest of the Party's agenda, plus how much they shrink the reconciliation bills themselves) how that affects us in 2022 and 2024.
If they refuse to budge at all on even modifications of the filibuster, and then we lose Congress and possibly the POTUS (also Breyer and the SCOTUS loom large) in 2022/2024, they will go down in history as the most hated Democrats since Dixiecrat days, of that there is little to no doubt. It will be damn near absolute if Manchin runs and losses in 2024, same for Sinema (although she may well lose a primary), as then it was all for naught, more or less. Even if Manchin holds onto his seat, but we lose the Senate anyway, doubly so.
I am SO hoping they both see the light and become team players. Time will tell, and time is tight, as there is a very high chance we lose the House in 2022, especially after losing seats post 2020 Census, and then the flood of partisan RW gerrymandering and voter suppression that is now going to occur.
