Congresswoman Tlaib is 100% correct, and I say this as someone who’s father served in Israel’s Air Force in the early 1960’s. (And believe me, it gives me no pleasure to write this.)

Israel’s different than 20th Century South Africa in the sense that Arabs living in Israel’s pre-1967 boundaries do enjoy civil rights and have served in high positions of state. That’s not nothing, but Israel’s treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank absolutely qualifies as Apartheid. In fact, many Israelis I’ve spoken have privately told me they agree with the comparison, although for obvious reasons some become uncomfortable when the metaphor is spoken aloud.
