And Putin's agitprop offensive is directed not only towards Russia's presumed enemies, but is a cornerstone of Putin's foreign policy worldwide. The populist movements pushing their crazy agendas, from Italy to New Zealand, are fueled by Putin's troll farms. Putin has little control over what happens to the content being generated on his command after it hits social media, but it suits him fine. He is counting on autocratic regimes to be able to suppress any populist sentiment, while democratic societies not being able to do so.
