(5,104 posts)this incident to his advantage.
No one believes that he is a racist or that his acting to try to stop a shooting in his black-majority town, where most victims of gun violence are African American, was motivated by racial animus. Quite to the contrary. He was the mayor of this town and risked his own life to protect others.
I'd ask voters the question, "if your life was in danger from an active shooting in your neighborhood, which way to you believe Dr Mehmet Öz would run?"
Or something like that. It would be a devastating take down IMO.
I watched one of the debates and he got positively clobbered by both Lamb and Kennyata over an incident he knew would come up. He just stood there.
He could make this a positive. A positive with black voters who his risked his life to protect, and a positive with "independent" voters who would not hold this against him.
That's my 2 cents.
