What of sending a 'second' payment wrapped within a letter of explanation in a plain envelope with the proper address(ing) information and a return receipt request (?).

And perhaps (in this way) if the first payment was to be received (by them), then your second payment might serve as the 'next' payment (sort of, in advance).

Just a second thought...
