(596 posts)and reading about weird things, I'm probably one of the most boring people I know. Bring it.
Funny thing though; decades ago when I still lived in Detroit, I let a friend who had a certain level of fame as a old Nam protester move in with me temporarily after his girlfriend kicked him out for being a total dirtbag. This was back in the late 80's...so pre-practically everything. The VERY DAY AFTER he moves in, my phone started making weird noises and I would hear people snickering at times when I was talking to friends and such. I figured my phone was tapped and I made a big joke out of it. I would answer the phone by saying "f**k the government, how may I help you?", which resulted in some very festive snickering and LOTS more clicking and beeping sounds.
All of this without the guy having filed any change of address form or anything. I still wonder at how they managed to track the guy, and if they could keep tabs on him THEN, then the ability to keep an eye on some of these domestic terrorist types has to be a LOT more advanced, considering how traceable everything is now. I'd imagine that the main variable would be the human element these days...or maybe TOO much data to sift though.
(EDITED TO MENTION; when I asked my friend about it, he said "oh, they've been following me around since the 60's" and left it at that.)
Just my random thoughts on the matter.
