Hudson has been a Twincities suburb for over forty years. However the way it is described you would think the cavalry just left the fort a couple years ago and the town has just got the telegraph.

As for how wild and dangerous it gets, I have been past Hudson, even all the way to Menominee. I didn't see any large predators or roving war bands...

Now I can't fully discount they could see some faint orange glow to the west, but in St Paul (15 miles closer) I couldn't see any flames.
