I vividly remember in 2012, I received my replacement credit card from Capitol One since my former one expired.

I called the 800 number expecting to get a recording so that I could activate my credit card. Imagine my surprise when I got a person instead.

The problem was the person on the other line wanted me to put an authorized user on my account. I kept telling them that I didn't want my then spouse on my account or being an authorized user. She wouldn't take no for an answer.

I told the Capitol One representative that I had things to get done for the day and please just activate my replacement credit card. She finally did what I wanted; I'll never forget how persistent she was.

My credit card should be my credit card.
