"The boys mother was reportedly picking up a DoorDash order when the car was stolen."
Nowhere does the article say she was picking up "her order". You embroidered that into the subject line, despite it not being in the story.
Perhaps an explanation of what "DoorDash" is and how it works, might be useful...
DoorDash is a food delivery service that works like Uber. Because it is independent flexible gig work, it appeals to a certain segment of the labor force which may have problems with regular working hours, but have managed to keep a car.
When you order from DoorDash or GrubHub, it is enlightening to go out and meet the driver, see their vehicle, and see who else might be in their vehicle.
If you do that enough, then the untold story in this piece becomes clear.
People who "pick up a DoorDash order" are called "Dashers". That is what she was doing.

"Dasher Gear
After your first dash, we'll send you a Dasher activation kit that contains items like a food warming bag, Red Card, hand sanitizer, and mask for Dasher safety.
Since no two people have the same taste in gear, theres an online store so you can get the gear and equipment you want, at less than retail."
She was going to be getting into and out of that car more than a dozen times that night. Now, she has likely been penalized for an undelivered order.

You might want to read the DDN article. They found one of the boys at the Dayton airport.

Leaving a car running and unattended is against the law in most, if not all, states.

That, too. Thanks for the reminder. It's because it creates a public hazard.

Where did you learn she was working there? I read she was just picking up an order she had placed.

Thanks but I don't see any sarcasm tags and it's not amusing - even if meant to be sarcastic
