If I won the big lottery, I'd be very cautious about buying a mansion here.

Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Holmby Hills... all super expensive areas but you literally can hear gangland shootings at night. You might drive by a sketchy neighborhood going to the grocery store. Just seems too easy to be a victim of a home invasion or have someone follow you when the leave the community.

If you find yourself in possession of 9-10 figures of cash...

Look at Orange County, like Crystal Cove or Pelican Ridge in Newport Beach or Emerald Cove in Laguna Beach or maybe something around the Ritz Carlton, down to Dana Point...

Or in LA County, Hidden Hills and Calabasas... or in Ventura County it's Lake Sherwood, Westlake Village and Hidden Valley.
