Only indictments and convictions of top-level conspirators will be proof that things have changed. I hope they have. I'm not as absolutely certain as the OP that nothing will happen, but I am highly skeptical.
One thing I can already be sure of: The pace has already been too slow to provide substantial deterrence value to future would-be coup plotters.
Those who attempt to overthrow the government of the United States should be afraid that the response to such actions will come down on them like a ton of bricks, not a slow-motion flurry of paperwork.
The response should be more like pursuing an active serial killer -- they still get due process, but if they're taken in alive, they are likely jailed while awaiting trial, and the process moves much more quickly.
