(50,993 posts)23. I don't see it. What is happening now, I think, is a backlash to
a lot of advances we have seen lately. A backlash against the idea that black people can compete for positions right up to the presidency. A backlash against the idea that women can have authority over themselves, and can compete in the workplace. A backlash against the idea that not a lot of us think Jesus is much of a savior.
I think this is more of a really disturbing swing of the pendulum rather than the first stages of a break-up.
One of Washington's biggest concerns in his farewell address was partisanship.
