"of course, that can't happen" issue. During the Bush years it began - I'd have lunch with my friends (both were a bit more moderate than me) and they thought I was way too pessimistic about the way things can go. I think many just lack the imagination for how bad people can be - particularly if they are some sort of right wing cult. But - here we are - and there they go, breaking norms many of us thought could never be broken. It all makes my wife and I, and our daughters, sick to behold what is happening.
