(22,201 posts)migrants being estimated quite a bit. The article I used the numbers out of, was all over (the article is: APRIL 13, 2021
"Key facts about the changing U.S. unauthorized immigrant population", BY MARK HUGO LOPEZ, JEFFREY S. PASSEL AND DVERA COHN).
If one were to include the non-Mexican immigrants, it would explain the differences between my posted numbers and yours. With everyone from all countries, your numbers would equal the 10 million or so. Mine are just apparently the Mexican number of illegal immigrants.
A large number indeed. One point to make, is that these numbers are for 2007-2017, a ten-year period.
And to boot, these illegal immigrants (and not all of them) do services here in the U.S., pick crops, landscaping, roofing, etc. We all know what they do.
By the way, a roofing story (not a good one) here...I had to chase off a roofing crew when I discovered the very sloppy work that they and their roofers were doing, on my take off an old roof/replace w/ a new roof event.
(illegals supposedly, which I didn't know at the time when I signed them up for a new roof, I ordered them off the property, I didn't know the kind of crew they would have on my roof, I was terrified that one of them would fall off the roof, hurt themselves). I was so upset, and they came knocking back at my door, that they hadn't gotten paid yet. And I was out my money and had the shingles still sitting in my yard.
But it was worth it...after that event, I contacted one of the local roofing companies, a much better-known outfit (John Beal, who showed me pictures of my incomplete yet destroyed roof after they were on the roof for what little time they were up there. I was shocked).
Even me, not a roofing expert by any means, but I have done roofs before, was shocked at what they were doing in replacing my roof. It was the most chaotic mess of shingles I have ever seen. So, I'm going to push John Beal Roofing, I hope I don't get dinged for pushing a commercial enterprise, but they came in, and saved me and my roof. They even gave me a good price, after they showed me what the former contracting company did to my roof. And they offered to stand by me, in case they (the original roofers I had contracted w/) showed up again to demand the rest of their money (I refused to pay them for this disaster).
So here they are. They proved just how reliable and trustworthy they are. John Beal Roofing | 2024's Top Roofing Companies (St. Louis Missouri area). And I want to emphasize that I had no idea that the original roofing company was like this, had used a crew of immigrants (I am guessing, since they didn't speak English). I didn't get a chance at contract time to examine their crew so they got me for the down payment.
I was lucky enough that I was able to get John Beal out there fast enough so any rain or such wouldn't damage my home any w/ the incomplete roof being put on by the first roof crew. John Beal had to tear off their roof, redo. And John Beal even made a mistake, they failed to repair some rotten wood in part of the roof, they torn the roof off again and redid right. Their owner/crew leader made them redo the roof.
So, this is a story about 3 roofs, (1) the original terrible old roof being replaced, job was done terribly (2) the new roof by John Beal, failed to replace rotten rafters (3) the redo of the 1st John Beal roof (which they fixed).
