I think the tea baggers prefaced this. They lost what was left of their minds.

Being gay went from acceptable to joke about to being celebrated in TV and movies THEN gay marriage was legal.
A woman might be POTUS

Their heads exploded. Everything had changed (and it did change quickly) and they could comprehend it.

Trump swooped in. The white male who could make everything back like it was. He also could stop a woman from being POTUS which is the principle reason evangelicals love him.
