To growing space among other things. Growing your own isn't cheap. There are community gardens but there are issues there too, you have to pay in and for people like me, my allegies prevent me from being in such places. Everybody grows something I am allergic to, like mint. Any kind is a big problem for me whether I'm near it or make contact.

I try to grow stuff around my place but I have to buy and bring in soil. If you rent your dwelling, there are so many obstacles that it puts people in no-win situations when it comes to access to nutrition.
