However, it is the continent they all are contained in from which the "oriental" connection derives. With the exception of Egypt (North Africa), most of the Middle East, Iran, Iraq, India lie on the Asian continent. The style is also the reason for the "oriental" nomenclature, I am pretty sure.

At any rate, I agree with the concept it is when used to describe/address people that "oriental" is considered inappropriate, rather than geography, objects, food, etc.
